Title: Prepping for a 6 month away from home.

Greetings
If one is leaving a house vacant for 6 months, and the house is fitted with a 250 litre electric storage hot water system, is it best to turn it off, turn it off and empty it, leave it on, or leave it on and lower the temperature?
The house is fitted with a Home Sewerage Treatment Plant so the power will be left on to allow the agitator to keep spinning. I could empty the syetem, and refill later with bacteria etc but is heaps dearer than just leaving it running.
Also, transporting a 60" LED 3D TV to a more secure place, all write ups say to NOT lay it flat. The stand is difficult to remove and makes it hard to transport upright, but is it safe to tip the whole thing upside down keeping it vertical and let it rest on its top keeping it cushioned and secure?

I would turn the HWS off at the HWS main switch in the meter box and turn the water off at the valve adjacent to the HWS. Open the pressure relief valve on the HWS for 5 sec then close and walk away.

You can lay the TV flat but you will need to pack it so that there is no stress on the glass or it can warp and crack is the reason

As the back of your tv is not flat it creates and uneven pressure on areas hence the reason why they tell you to store upright

Notify your insurance of the dates the house is vacant.

I have a vague feeling that most insurances are void if the house is vacant for a significant period of time and 6 months may fall into that period

Sounds pretty straight forward. Does a chance for Legionaires disease crop up allowing the waterr to cool down in storage?
The insurance company ard happy with weekly visits and timers on a couple of lights.

A plumber friend of mine reckons you should always have the HW temp set to maximun to avoid the legionella bacteria. We have a downstairs shower that doesnt get used since the kids left & he said if we go to use, it should be run for 15min minimum with the HW set at maximum.

However i turn the HW down to minimum from Sept-May as it reduces power bill by $$$$$$. I will only turn it up if temp goes to single figures which isnt often (maybe 3 wks per year)
 I actually havent had a hot water in the shower in 4 months. :D
