Hey swaggers,
Anyone got any experience or words of wisdom for transporting a Jayco Swan from Davenport to Melb. I have a quote from the spirit of tassie of 1500-1600 for an unaccompanied trailer which is freakin crazy compared to the cost of getting a car across the ditch.
short story is I have the opportunity to purchase this trailer cheapish from my bro, but the transport cost take a little of the shine off.
I could do a back to back return trip and get it myself cheaper (depending on seating / room options) , but i dont wanna sit on a boat for 24 hrs.
Could do a 2 week trip to go get it and make a holiday out of it, but dont really have the annual leave up my sleeve.
been looking for some transporters, not sure how many empty trucks come back across, cheaper with a backloading options maybe???
thoughts, ideas??

you pay my way over and back I'll go get it to the mainland :)
the cost of getting across is crazy.. thus why I haven't returned on holidays.

To put into perspective.
A one way crossing for one person, a car and a trailer will cost you between $550 and $750plus depending on timing and accomodation options. So your two way trip could cost you $1200. It all gets down to timing of trip and what's on offer and how soon you want it.
A CT by itself is at least an extra $350 on top of vehicle and driver.
That said, I'm sure if anyone over here was heading over dry during the next few months, or knew someone else who was, they would stick the CT on the back to get it too the mainland.

The cost is high as the govt (not sure which) subsidises travel to and from tas to increase the tourist revenue and small business.
Sadly your requirements dont meet that so you get stung. Maybe you are best advertising on here in the swag mail section and wait for a swagger to head over without a trailer and they may take it across for you. Spot em dinner in the restaurant on board the ship and everyone would be smiley happy.
When I lived south we came across every six months or so and often only had the tow rig so it does happen.

Do you still need transport? Friends have arrived in Tassie unannounced, they're travelling with a friend of their's, who may be able to help when he heads back on the ferry.

Mate thanks very much for the offer. I am still in the motions of getting this sale sorted (and approved by the missus!). I am not sure when I will be able to get it from Melb as of yet either.
Its probably not going to be for another few weeks or maybe even closer to easter.

Thanks Dazzler, and heres the proof i guess with this offer from BTMNDR. I will probably end up posting something in the swagmail section as suggested when the sale completes and hope for the best!
Worst case, I end up paying the 1600 and be done with it

TOLL shipping out of Burnie do this sort of thing. When we bought our camper in Melbourne we were offered to have it shipped to Tasmania on TOLL. Not sure of pricing but worth a phone call.
