I know we live in a different world now but I was wondering do any of you guys and gals still play board games ( Snakes and Ladders, Ludo, Monopoly etc) anymore.
The reason I ask is, Jen was cleaning out some cupboards this morning and bought out some of the games we use to play with the kids when they were younger and living at home. ;D
Wow that bought back some beautiful memories.
I used to really enjoy Twister too >:D
-
used to play 'stratego' quite a bit as a kid, and still have one in the house now... :)
-
We bought our daughter Monopoly as a card game for xmas (yes it exists as a card game), it's gotten a good run over the past weeks since then and several Adults have enjoyed playing the new version quite abit.
-
We have an old Scrabble set, wooden tiles, and still play it often although we've changed the name to "Squabble"
Steve
-
yeah we do from time to time. Lyndall and i also enjoy chess. Infact just got a travel one which we used on a few rainy days camping at christmas.
The simpsons game is a funny one to play and is for the whole family
-
BATTLESHIP!!!!!
-
Geeze that's nice, duck, you missed, whack ;D
sorry different sort of bored game >:D
-
BATTLESHIP!!!!!

-
BATTLESHIP!!!!!
Yep. That and Test Match were my faves.
-
Used to play a lot of "backgammon" with an ex, great game but the brain has trouble remembering it now :'(

We played test match too it was at my Dad's house, we played a lot of board games when we were there, monopoly, cluedo, great Australian gambling game, not sure if it was for kids but we loved playing it I think I have it here now. Other favourites Pictionary, yahtzee, battleship, think I need to get some of them out and use them
-
Pass the Pigs, is a hoot ( or an oink). Small easy to pack and the kids love it. Kills the time on miserable days.
-
Gotta pack the Scrabble!
-
We used to play trouble as kids and now I love playing it with the nephews. Uno was another childhood favorite. We had 6 days on Great Keppel Island over New Year for our family Christmas, 17 adults and 8 kids. Each afternoon while the kids had a nap there was a Uno grudge match for those adult that were game enough ;D
It's certainly not a game for kids but has anyone played Cards Against Humanity? Freakin hilarious but you often get the feeling you're going to hell in a hand basket while playing. It's worth googling.
-
Another one for Uno here.
Brother and law and I pull out Trouble when we have a few, and go popomatic on each other! The girls hate the popping noise, which I suppose is half the reason we drag it out. :worthles:
But it's a great game, simple and fun!

Word games get a bit of a run in our place; scrabble, boggle, upwards. We like the 5 tile version of scrabble where each person starts with 5 tiles. You then have to arrange your own tiles to make words, the first person to use their 5 tiles calls out and then everyone has to pick up more tiles. If you are too slow at making words you get stuck with heaps of tiles building up in front of you. Its much quicker than the traditional scrabble and more than 4 people can play, so it is good if you have a few people who want to play.

I always found Scrabble to be more fun if we were very flexible with the rules, and didn't keep score....
-
That's right Uno, Old Maid, Red 7s were fun card games that always turned into a YOU CHEATED card games ;D.
What was the name of the board game where you had to pick a card from a pile and act out what was on the card eg sing a song ???
We didn't need batteries back then to recharge the board games when out camping :cup:
-
spin the bottle on the twister mat also take it camping makes great entertainment with other families

Just googled - sounds like a heap of fun ;D

Another vote for scrabble.

We have 'family games night' once a week where we turn off technology and all play board games together. We have hungry hippo, kerplunk, operation and some fishing game at the moment.
-
I grew up with card games. Rummy, Canasta, 500, etc But not euchre. Euchre is a crap abomination of 500 that is played by four year olds.
Cribbage is our main game. The board comes out with a bottle of port, fun times.

Cool. Good on ya mate. :cup:
Loved hungry hippo as a kid, now I look like one ;D. And operation was awesome fun too
-
Yep. That and Test Match were my faves.
Thet brought the Test Match game out on the cricket show at lunch during the Boxing Day test to show the field set ups - reminded me what a great game it is.
-
And operation was awesome fun too
Is this where you picked up your interest in biology?

It's how they teach you in med school to be a doctor. ;D
-
Haven't played a for many years but my favorites were.
Master mind.
Backgammon.
500 Hundred sometimes played no mizair.
UNO
I'd be doing well to remember just how to play these days. lol
-
Uno is always been a favourite of ours. Suffer!
-
Uno, Yahtzee, bingo and scrabble all get a run when we are camping. We also have a family games night once a week where all electronic devices and TV's are turned off. It took the kids a court of weeks to get used to it but now they are excited about games night. Cludo, mousetrap, and monopoly kids are the favourites at the moment.

Euchres a great game once everyone knows the ropes.
It's one of the few things Americans have a better version of. Two handed 500 is another great game for 2 people. You have two hands each it's pretty challenging one the beers are flowing.
Scumbag and gin are also great games.
Uno and pase ten along with grass are great for groups but you need to buy the specific cards.
Pass the pigs and yah toi also good because thier small but hours of fun.

+1 for Cards Against Humanity.
As long as you are very Politically Incorrect and have a warped sense of humour.
-
A good game of "Greasy Pigs" is always fun.
Items Needed ; A large portion of black plastic sheeting and an industrial sized bottle of flavoured baby oil. >:D
Instructions: Strip naked and get into it. >:D
Everything packs up in no space at all too.
See ya's at the Nat Meet. ;D
-
With the kids we play "Go fish", stratego and greed
-
Our eldest, Oliver, is a Yahtzee addict!
However it has given him an excellent mathematics brain and his teachers are astounded how good he is at maths - and he can add numbers up quicker than we can - and not just 0-30 either.
We try and take other games on holidays but usually end up only playing the aforementioned Yahtzee ::)
-
We've got dozens of board games from Pay Day, four versions of Monopoly, Scotland Yard, and The Mining Game, through to your typical Operation, Twister, Cluedo, Scrabble, Headache, Ludo etc... but we have yahtzee, boggle, uno, a few decks of cards and the crib board permanently in the camper. We also play our own version of Scattegories.
Unfortunately we don't get the board games out any where near enough these days. Might have to remedy that.
Thanks for the reminder :cup:
-
In my younger pre marriage days, in Airlie Beach, mate & I played "Zilch" & a game called "Dead Ant" which involved O.P. Bundy rum & certain other substances. I would never condone this though!

Like I said uno or even better phase 10 by the same makers would have to be the most portable family friendly games going.
Google pass the pigs, it's 2 plastic pigs you play like dice and make money how they land
-
Two of our kids are coming home for the weekend so might get the Monopoly out ;D.
I'd like to be able to buy Park Lane and Mayfair just once ;D ;D

We used to live in Africa as kids where TV didn't start until 5pm and quite often the electricity supply was 'intermittent' so had a good silly of board games. Mostly Scrabble (still got the old one with wooden tiles and holders) monopoly, battleships and Yahtzee. 7 year old loves Yahtzee now. We alwayss travel with a pack of cards as there's lots of games to play. Our favourites were Gin, Hearts, and 'Spite and Malice'. It is basically Skip Bo but with normal cards. I have many fond memories of playing this for hours against my grandmother
We are a strictly 'no electronics' family when we travel.
-
kids have started to learn chess which is interesting!
normal card games played here especially Uno. Kids also really getting into pictionary at the moment.
On the way back from the Vic High Country last saturday played an epic game of "I Spy".
-
We take these 3 and play each of them every day. Never gets old.
Cleudo --- the kids love the crime solving and secrecy theme of this game.
Scrable --- 2 teams with a kid and adult on each, they love making up rude words.
Monopoly Millionaire --- much better than regular monopoly as there is more strategy and team work.
-
Games have always been big in our house. Kids are bigger now but with still have regular games at family dinners. Card games, skip-bo, some triva games. My son got a particularly good game called cards against humanity which is a ball for a group of people (especially after a couple of beers) but definitely an over-18's one. The wife and I always take our favourite "trains game" (Ticket to ride) with us when we camp and another board game "Alembra".
-
Games are big in our house, too.
At home, Mouse Trap, Scrabble, Upwords and Sequence get a good run with the 6 year old.
When we're travelling/holidaying, we always take Bananagrams, Tantrix, Uno and a pack of 500 cards. They're all compact to pack, but provide for plenty of variety.
