Well we left hobart yesterday and rolled the swags out at Beaconsfield before heading for the spirit of Tas this morning. Anyway a short distance from Beaconsfield this happens

With a tow to the spirit and a top up of transmission fluid and a fan belt trimmed after splitting along one of the ribs we are hoping we can limp on and off and sort it out in Melbourne and continue up to Byron and QLD.
Anyone know a mechanic close to port Melbourne that can do a job tomorrow? Nissan are useless and can't even talk about booking it in till Monday
-
What has actually happened, is it the trans?
-
G'day mate, not good.
I just googled mechanics on call 7 days and came up with a few.
Here's one of them www.onsitemechanics.com.au/ (http://www.onsitemechanics.com.au/) Ph. 1800850449

The fan belt has split along one of the ribs on the belt and it ripped off a trans line. Fluid has been topped up and I have a replacement belt but have been told that I should also replace the tensioner considering this is the second time it has happened in about 3 weeks. Problem is I don't have many tools on me

PM Sent
-
Hope you get it sorted Justin should have called me 10 minutes from the spirit if time was a factor in not being able to repair before boarding I could have loaned you a shifter screw driver gaffa tape pliers cable ties a full jerry can of petrol a box of matches and a phone number of a Toyota dealer in Melbourne - have a good trip
-
More than welcome at home Justin, if you have the parts , or need tools

I think your expecting a bit much this time of yr for anyone to have time free on a sunday.. Nissan and Monday might not be such a bad option if they can help. at least they may have the parts.

PM Sent
jamie's going to fire up the barbie and offer the shed for a lay day.
Gowalkabout, BWS have a good deal on green slabs atm.
-
If Autobarn or Repco ( they are close to me) have the parts I don't mind picking them up and running them down to you at the docks. I have enough tools and can give you a hand to fit them. If you want to tackle it that way give me a yell
-
How awesome is this site? One guy has a few issues & at least 4 people offer to assist, whether it be fix the car or drink beer, well done to all of you. Many of you have probably not even met him. Good work.

If its going to be laid up in Jamie's shed for a day, you'll need to think about another supplier as well as I doubt BWS will have enough.

Thank you for all the offers of help
Here's a quick update
2 days, 2 states might as well have 2 tows.
Have waved goodbye to the patrol. while it sits in a holding yard overnight and taken to nissan tomorrow we have just picked up the hire car and checked in to the motel in dandanong. So now nothing to do but maybe checkout the bar and pool for the day

No worries, Do yourself a favor and drive into the city for a look or a drive up thru the Dandenongs is good on a warm day. There is not much to do in Dandenong
If you need anything just yell I am only 10 minutes from Dandenong.
-
You can meet peoples from many parts of the world & get Mugged by them >:D in Dandy

Unless you are looking for a good curry, why Dandenong of all places ? Ferntree Gully Nissan or Gary Rogers Nissan are 2 that come to mind.

Hey I'm a hugger not mugger, must be why they kicked me out of Dandy
-
I've had excellent experiences with dandenong Nissan. Hope it all works out.
-
We have ended up in Dandenong because of good recommendations so good to hear another positive comment about them
The response from people on here and via pm have been great and although in the end we haven't taken any of you up on these offers (at this point) it is certainly a great feeling knowing a community like this is willing to go out of their ways to help. It is very much appreciated so thank you to all here
-
So GW, what was the final verdict/solution? Assume you must be all fixed and on your way north?
-
They replaced the belt and trans fluid checked it over and washed the underside. We eventually hit the road out of Dandenong with fingers crossed about 4pm Monday and arrived at the b.i.l place in tintenbar about 5pm Tuesday.
-
Glad to hear that you are back on the road :)
