I have a colleague keen to take his family away for their first major camping trip, trouble is he doesn't own a camper.
Family lives in Sydney, driving 20o Series to Melbourne and getting on the ferry across to Tassie on 1 Jan; they have at least booked a berth for the camper, if they can get one.
He has been trying all the hire places but no luck so far.
I realise not many will be interested in this, but if you're not going away, or could use some cash and are prepared to rent your camper for the month, pleas get in contact with me. Needs everything included.

Gday Jules
January is a bad month for it down here as we are all making the most of our two months of warm weather ;)
Hiring for a month is going to be expensive http://www.campersdelight.com.au/hiring.htm (http://www.campersdelight.com.au/hiring.htm) theres a place near me that does it and would negotiate for a full month but geez they would be better off buying a cheapy and selling it on return? I mean you can buy an import for a couple of grand these days can't you?
Risky business either way going on holidays using an unknown set up imho ;)
Hopefully someone that is fully set up with a tried and proven camper can help them out.

It is true they haven't planned this in an ideal fashion.
-
Geez those hire rates are exy considering the basic nature of the advertised camper.
I agree with DannyG, its also risky business for the lender not knowing the planned itinerary (How bashed about the camper will get) or the knowledge of the lender including towing experience, mechanical aptitude, 4wding capability, knowledge of batteries/discharge rates/electrical's etc etc.
It would be very easy to do $5k worth of damage to a trailer/canvas/battery bank in the hands of the inexperienced despite the best of intentions.
I wish them luck, we did tassie some years ago using a combination of quality swags and B&B accommodation. It would be cheaper to do this and save on ferry and CT hire costs perhaps.

Jas

Unfortunatly most will not lend out for cash as this can becomes a commercial arrangement which would make most insurance policies void
My insurance company for my camper is very specific on their wording that my camper is insured on the basis that it is NOT used for hire or rent

Has he tried here ?

In this instance the hirers are conservative and cashed up

Big Jules I am soon selling my off road soft floor (Voldermont but sturdy) very soon if they are interested. I am in the Hills/North West.
Edit: and I think I might have some stuff to include extra (2 burner stove with gas bottle etc)

might be worth a look also

Thanks guys. I don't think these are "rough it" kinda folks, probably more Kimberley Kampers style.
-
I'm working in Tassie atm and there are plenty of "whereis" holiday rentals down here that would equate to the same price as renting a van or camper on a daily/weekly rate and in some very nice spots.

Might be an opportunity for Parry to make a $5k hire fee.

I'll hire mine for 10 :)
Might even throw in the missus! >:D

Was going to suggest they buy one of the trade show Trackies then sell it for a profit at the end of the trip. Win win.

We don't have anything left, absolutely flat out for Xmas. That would have been my suggestion also.
