Title: Engineer Certificate - contacts
Post by: Kennys trailer on November 07, 2014, 02:52:45 PM
Hi all,

Could someone please give me contact details for an Engineer (modification certificate & plate required) around Brisbane, i'm in West End.

I have a registered Bushhopper Camper trailer which was recently put over the scales and was over the 750kg limit, I have since had mechanical brakes added and got a Safety Certificate which Transport Department tells me is useless and I need the Engineer's report instead.

Hoping to get away for the G20 long weekend and would like to get it sorted prior to then so I don't have to have a small load keeping it under the 750kg mark

Thanks
Kenny

You'll have to call Qld Tpt and find out what the code is for the ATM upgrade on light trailers. AFAIK, it doesn't exist. ;D  If it does, please do share what the code actually is.

They'll give you the names and contact details of Authorised Persons in your area, once you tell them what codes you need to have certified. I think it's LG1 or 2 for brakes, but the ATM upgrade is for heavy vehicles only I'm pretty sure. Might have changed though.

13 23 80 is the number. Good luck  ;D

Shane.

There was a thread here recently that someone mentioned a GVM upgrade to their Jayco from some trailer manufacturer at Brendale (near Brisbane).

Here I found the thread

Thanks gents, will start the process...looking unlikely that this will occur before G20 so will be packing lightly

Ok, had an engineer at Geebung look it all over this arvo, all came up well with the new ATM of 1250kg, springs and axle were rated at 1600kg but couldn't confirm the grade of steel for the a-frame so hence the lower ATM but that said I am very happy from the previous 750kg.

I now have the Certificate of Modification and will try my luck with Transport Dept tomorrow.

The code number you mentioned Footy Shorts Shane is 'S7 & S12'

Spoke to the Engineer this morning and he got me in this arvo so couldn't be happier but knowing Transport Dept I have reservations...suppose I will know tomorrow but it is looking positive for taking the extra XXXX Gold

Gday Shane,

Yes all done and dusted, went in to Transport Dept in Brisbane and after a bit of back and forward between staff was finally told if I bring in the old rego plate they would do it.

I rang work (as I went out at smoko) and asked if I could have an early/long lunch and then went straight home and got the old rego plate. Wanted to strike while the iron was hot... I came back and provided the Engineers report, Safety Certificate and Old rego plate and had it upgraded, I was happy that it had finalised.

Got away that weekend up to Gordon Country on the G20 long weekend, was quite a few people using the Brisbane Long-weekend to get away but that said was very comfortable space wise. Ended up hitting 40 degrees on two of the days but made no difference, was away camping so all good. When we first got up there there was only one other camper and they were a good 100-150 yards away so no dramas, the next people that came in were standing on the hill surveying where to set up and were did set going to set up between me and my mates camper (space we had saved for other mates turning up the next day), quickly got out another tent and put it in the middle to give them the hint. Cannot believe peoples spatial awareness and lack of thought to others, was shaking my head that you would want to camp within 40 feet of others when the whole park was empty at the time...unbelievable

Anyway, the trailer has always towed well and too be honest I didn't notice much difference with the brakes now but felt very comfortable knowing that it was all legal and should anything go wrong I would not have any worries legally.

Thanks for your help and advice.

Kenny

Have had a few private message requests asking for the engineer's details that I used, thought I would post it for anyone's future reference:

I used Clint Harry, 'Harry's Performance Engineering' who is at Geebung (his home) and also Clontarf (shed/office), his phone number is 0438 738 454

I was very happy with him, personable and got me in on the day --- cost $300
