Title: 10 Years of Camping Evolution...
Post by: JCOJ on September 23, 2014, 06:13:16 PM
Flicking through some old photos today and it seems like we have gone through quite a bit of camping evolution over the past 10 years!!

Tent
to
TJ Wrangler with Home Built Trailer
to
JK Wrangler with Trak Shak
to
Pajero with Aussie Swag
to
LC200 with Evernew Caravan

Hopefully that will be it now for the next 10 years!!

Some money spent there JCOJ. All nice rigs, too. :cup:

I've had the same car for 15 years, and it's towed only 2 campers.

great thread idea this, i'll play along with a few of our old pics from the past 10 years......

FRASER ISLAND 2004 (that's our tent centre of pic)

USED TO CRUISE AROUND THE COUNTRYSIDE IN THIS OLD GIRL

FRASER ISLAND CAMPING 2005 (we had the same tent there back in 2004, but no marquee or any shade structure over the tent the year previous)

AROUND 2007 WE MOVED ON FROM THE TENT TO CARAVAN (still have and use the touring tent though, it was our accomodation in 2010 when we went across The Simpson Desert for example)

Love the progressions. I started with a 1997 hilux, and slowly decked it out for travelling. I've got my 80 series now, but still on the Oztent. More than happy with it at the moment, although a camper would be nice!

Family camping startd at Moreton Island with a very basic camp set up of a folded blue tarp " tent " [jnr flattened it in pic ], esky,  gas cooker  and a  Diahatsu F-20 Scat.
Then onto luxury with a 3m x 3m tent and tarp and blow up mattresses fo a number of years .. to think that we could fit the three of us + all the camping gear, jerry of fuel, water, tent, table , chairs etc etc  into the Scat for a two week trip to Fraser Island ..
Then came the luxury and space of a home built camper and the Diahatsu Rocky for the next ten years till the current camper build and Four runner set up .

Mines probably over a much longer period than 10 years, my only regret is not having as many pics as we would have liked in the earlier days.

Late 80's, early 90's not sure.....before kids anyway
(http://1.bp.blogspot.com/-dnatgwa6sAA/TuVRbfr8gFI/AAAAAAAAAnk/egMHg8kbuy0/s1600/1989d.jpg)

Quite some time later....during kids
(http://i134.photobucket.com/albums/q86/DannyG13_photos/mathinafamilynight/the_morning_after.jpg)

And recently...still with kids but they are disappearing lol

We also like our 'without kids' set up too ;)

But I am sure there will be an upgrade in the near future that will see us through quite a few years

tent in one saddle bag, sleepin bag in the other, grog in the Ventura bag... that's all you need.

"tent in one saddle bag, sleepin bag in the other, grog in the Ventura bag... that's all you need."

Sighhhhhh! Philip Island is my bet. Gardner, Doohan ....and before that when a bloke's possessions could fit in the boot of an FJ Holden with his prized racing bike and trailer behind and the only handbrake on hangovers was the need to keep the fuel, tyres and parts up to it all.

What the Hell happened to sweep all that away for sobriety, soft furnishings and interior décor??

..... my only regret is not having as many pics as we would have liked in the earlier days.

we don't have any pics of when we used to go camping from more then about 10 years ago (around 2004 we started), we never used to even take a camera away with us. Many many years back, I had travelled to Cape York and across a heap of central Australia and never once had a camera with me, so have no pics at all of those great times  :'(

There were various cars in this period with mainly carting Race bikes around to meetings, after I stopped road racing we started to tour a bit, taking dirt bikes with us.

Enter the Ford Explorer and tandum box trailer and Jackaroo tent, what a pain in the arse that was to put up

Who knows what we will go for next, I do miss the bike touring quite a lot, great days, simple light and fun getting there.

Baz.
