Title: subscription Ending
Post by: jmorgan1981 on August 06, 2014, 02:59:10 PM
My current subscription for camper trailer touring is coming to an end soon and I am over the way they never seem to have a bad word to say about any products at all.

So what camper trailer magazine can the combined knowledge of myswag recommend to me. I would like something that doesn't seem to have review outcomes dependent advertising budget.

Jmorgs I'm thinking you answered your own question in a way, though not really a magazine, instead of a paying for a paper copy, you will have to settle for a digital only net accessed version "  MYSWAG.org " ... Sure  beats every magazine going out there for content reviews, travel, tech, and has the benefeit equivolent to having a handy aunt or uncle handy when trouble strikes and you need to know how to fix something .. Cheaper than a subsciption .. ;D

I've about 3 different 4wd magazine subscriptions all ending in the next 1-2 months.

Decided not to renew any of them, the $ will go towards an LED Light Bar.

It's gotten to the stage that I don't read them anymore, just flip through to see if there is anything interesting....

My favorite was when they had been raving on about how great Tyre brand X was for the past 3-4 issues, then were doing a trip to Tassie and it was sponsored by Tyre brand Y so they changed the tyres and then raved on about how good there were.

One picture even had both Tyre X & Tyre Y in it as they were changing them over.
No point complaining about the lack of quality / crap and they all so hostage to their advertisers / special interest groups.

To be fair, 4wd Touring Australia & Pat Callinan 4x4 Adventures have great photography, and the line between advertisment / advertorial / story is clearer.

I still do a bit of flying so I'll get the occasion one at the airport, but bring on the 30" light bar.

I think you will find all the mags are that way, just they way they make money.

My missus got me a 4WD Touring subscription for Christmas last year and I hate it. The pics are pretty nice but most of them seem to have the editor's 4x4 in them. The articles are written very "arty" I suppose and maybe I am not smart enough but it seems like a lot of gibberish and trying hard to be clever/sophisticated.

The travel articles are OK when the editor hasn't written them, when he does I have no idea what is going on. For example, latest issue arrived today, page 21 "The Scenic Rim, a loose conglomeration of ranges along Queensland's southern border, takes the ruler-straight line that demarcates New South Wales to the south and chews it into a jagged, crenulated meandering border." Maybe its just me but I have to think really hard to try and interpret what he has written and it frustrates me as there are probably a handful of words I have no idea the meaning of!

There are no comparisons as such, just "here is a product, its awesome because x,x and x, costs $xxx from Xxxx".

Anyway, just my opinion, I reckon after a while you get over the mags or you try new ones to mix it up a bit.

I don't really worry about advertising (they need to make money) I just read the articles that interest me and ignore the rest. But then again I was getting sick of woman's day

Now those magazines in brown paper bags have great stories but the pictures keep distracting me :-)
