Title: Anyone ever claimed on "Yokohama 4x4 Tyre Road Hazard Warranty"?
Post by: cyberess on June 15, 2014, 01:14:17 AM
Has anyone ever claimed on "Yokohama 4x4 Tyre Road Hazard Warranty" on either  Geolandar ATS (G012), Geolandar HTS (G051) or Geolandar SUV (G055)?

I have been trying to claim my staked tyre
(http://gallery.myswag.org/gallery/d/48598-1/Yokohama-tireGO12-fail01.JPG)
that I purchased 6 weeks ago.

I did use the information from the Yokohama website about the "Yokohama 4x4 Road Hazard Program" http://www.yokohama.com.au/Footer/Tyre-Promotions/4x4-Road-Hazard-Program.aspx (http://www.yokohama.com.au/Footer/Tyre-Promotions/4x4-Road-Hazard-Program.aspx) as a part of my tyre purchasing decision.
As this moment the Yokohama dealer as list Yokohama website is reneging on the warranty, I am not sure why.

What I would like to know has anyone successfully claimed under the "Yokohama 4x4 Tyre Road Hazard Warranty" and how much trouble was it to claim.

What's the reason the dealer won't honor the warranty.

Was the tyre staked offroad or did this happen on the black top? Is offroad covered under warranty?

Looks like they are covered off road

You can get free road hazard protection when you buy 2 or more Yokohama Geolandar ATS (G012) All Terrain tyres, Geolandar HTS (G051) Highway Terrain tyres or Geolandar SUV (G055) Urban 4x4 tyres. So if you damage them on or off-road they’ll be repaired or replaced for free if you have a Yokohama Geolandar Road Hazard Certificate.

Yokohama Geolandar Road Hazard Certificates are offered at the time of purchase from participating Tyres & More stores, Bob Jane T-Marts or independent Yokohama dealers listed on this website.

The Yokohama Geolandar Road Hazard Program protects your 4WD tyres against:
    Tyre punctures,
    Tyre kerb damage,
    Tyre staking,
    Tyre cuts, and
    Tyre impact fractures.

The program is valid when you present a Road Hazard Certificate, within 24 months from the date of purchase and your tyres fit into the following tyre wear or tyre damage criteria:

   1. Free tyre repair applies when:
 A. It is safe to repair the tyre.
 B. The remaining tread depth is greater than 50% of the original tread depth.

   2. Free tyre replacement applies when:
 A. The tyre cannot be safely repaired.
 B. The tyres have greater than 75% of their original tread depth remaining. In this case the tyres will be replaced for free.

   3. Pro rata tyre replacement applies when:
 A. The tyre cannot be safely repaired.
 B. The tyres have less than 75% but greater than 50% of the original tread depth remaining. In this case the cost of the replacement tyre will be equivalent to the amount of tread worn off the tyre as a percentage of the original purchase price.

   4. Tyre replacement does not apply when:
 A. Tyres have less than 50% of the original tread remaining.
 B. Tyres are older than 24 months from the date of purchase.
 C. The tyres have been damaged as a result of fire, car accident, brake lock up or vehicle mechanical failure.
 D. The tyres show signs of overloading, overheating, incorrect inflation pressure, neglect, vandalism, willful damage or snow chain damage.

Providing you meet the criteria Go directly to Yokohama forget the dealer. Send them a link to this thread.

Yes, I have.

In about 2010 I purchased a set of 5 Geolandars from Bob Jane Cairns, and headed off up and down the CREB Track.  Passing through a shallow stream, I managed to slice the sidewall open, I assume on an unseen submerged rock.

Thank heavens for the TPMS, as without it I'd have been half way up a mountainside, lead vehicle, forcing all of us to back down to change a flat.

Anyhow, took the tyre back to Bob Jane's and it was replaced with no questions asked.

Yokohama Geolandar Road Hazard Certificates are offered at the time of purchase........

This looks important.
Do you have a certificate?

Seems pretty black and white to me.

What is the reason that they are giving you for not honouring the deal?

The tyres were purchased from Tyrepower in Darwin  -- at the time of tyre selection, I rang them and got a quote over the phone, for $260 per tyre fitted, at the time of the quote, I asked them, are you sure that's the complete price fitted and balanced. They came back with a firm yes. I booked the vehicle in to have 3 tyres tyres fitted. When the tyres fitted, I picked up the vehicle, they "tried" to hit me up with a charge for balancing, tyre disposal  and tyre valve, and at Darwin pricing that getting near $20 per tyre, I did remind them of the phone conversation and they dropped the extra charges.  At this stage the deal was feeling a little nasty, but it's a Darwin business, I have got used to this sort of thing from "some" Darwin businesses. Another odd thing on the day of pick, they were unable to give a invoice, and their computer system was down, and this did seem true, as there was 3 other customers at that time, in the same situation. About 3 weeks later I did return and pick up  the invoice.

What appears to have gone wrong, at the time of pick, Tyrepower never gave me the "Road Hazard Certificate"..

Looking at what checks for the Warranty
Quote
1 This road hazard protection is only made available with the purchase of two or more Yokohama Geolandar tyres from any authorised dealers nominated as Tyres & More Dealers, Bob Jane T-Marts, and Yokohama Key Dealers.
Yes this checks  ..  in fact if I try the phone the phone number 139656 that on the Yokohama web site, if diverts me to Darwin TyrePower.

Quote
2. Tyres purchased outside any of these dealer networks, will not be eligible to this road hazard protection program.
Nope -- it was purchased within Yokohama dealer network.

Quote
3. The Geolandar tyres covered by this certificate are limited only to the following patterns: Geolandar H/T-S (G051), Geolandar A/T-S (G012) and Geolandar SUV HT Eco (G055).
It was the GO12 that I purchased  ..  checks

Quote
4. The road hazard protection certificate provides Australia wide protection for the nominated Geolandar tyres from road hazard damage as described below, when driving in both on or off road conditions.
This may not check as Tyrepower didn't give me the certificate.

Quote
5. Protection against road hazard damage includes: staking, cuts, impact fractures, and accidental kerb damage only.
Yes this should cover my tyre.

O.K. there heaps more but it all checks.

About the only thing that I can find sus about the warranty
Quote
Only one tyre replacement claim is valid per tyre on the original Road Hazard Certificate. A new Road Hazard Certificate will not be issued with replacement tyres. A Road Hazard Certificate can only be issued with the purchase of 2 or more tyres on one invoice.
This means really on a purchase of 4 tyres only one tyre can be claimed per "Road Hazard Certificate"   -- better to purchase 2 tyres at a time  -- get 2 "Road Hazard Certificate"s.

The only reason I can think of the dealer acting up like this, is that they are not sourcing their tyres through the correct channel, but it does raise a few questions, Why is Yokohama phone number diverting to Tyrepower..   I am going to have to contact the distributor directly, does anyone know how to contact Yokohama Australia directly?

Only one tyre replacement claim is valid per tyre on the original Road Hazard Certificate. A new Road Hazard Certificate will not be issued with replacement tyres. A Road Hazard Certificate can only be issued with the purchase of 2 or more tyres on one invoice

I read this as front left tyre is replaced with a new one.  It is no longer covered, but the remaining three are.

Just a update  -- managed to contact Yokohama directly today on their global number (02) 8748-2600  ..

All I can say is excellent  :cup:  :cup: found them really nice to deal with and they are fixing me up with a "4x4 Tyre Road Hazard" certificate, as I have sent them my receipts, all I have to do is send them the serial numbers of the tyres, and even better I will be they have referred me to Darwin Bob Jane Tyres for the replacement tyre, so I don't have to deal with Darwin Tyrepower.

 :cup: Yokohama  :cup:

I am not sure what has gone wrong at "Darwin Tyrepower", but it's like everything they seem not to be placing the customer first.  They are defiantly on my do not recommend list now.

sounds like a good end result coming your way...i'd be emailing TyrePower's head office next and telling them about the lack of customer service you recieved from their Darwin store.

Depends on how much grief you want to cause Tyrepower but I would think that under the Consumer Protection Act they have breached their obligation to provide you with warranty. 4 x Harvey Norman stores got fined $116000 between them and 1 x got a $32000 fine for this very recently (http://www.brw.com.au/p/business/could_raps_apple_warranties_harvey_znWHgjoTR3XIqxBP0YJYUO (http://www.brw.com.au/p/business/could_raps_apple_warranties_harvey_znWHgjoTR3XIqxBP0YJYUO)).

About time these bigger businesses realised that they cannot push warranty problems back onto the manufacturer or deceive customers into thinking they are not qualifying for a warranty repair.

Imagine it could be quite a process and considering Yoko have done right by you probably not worth it in this case.

Grant from Darwin Tyrepower did call me today, offering me the replacement tyre, which I then did explain that I already had the tyre replaced, he explained to me that he had been overseas, and that his crew didn't do the right thing etc etc.. and didn't enter the tyres on the right computer system which caused all the confusion with the "4x4 Tyre Road Hazard" Certificate. He has assured that that Darwin Tyrepower has now corrected this situation.

O.K. on part I do accept their apology -- and might even consider dealing them again after the phone call, but I certainly would get prices in writing before they begin, just  to be sure, as I checked their old invoice, extra charges they tried to slug add up to about $30 per tyre at the time of fitting, although in the end they did oner the verbal price when I pulled them up.

Sad really that businesses try it on and then very quickly back down if you challenge them. Wonder how many people just accept the higher price and give the business a bonus?

Great to hear they acknowledged their mistake and did offer the replacement tyre, a little too late but they did get around to it.

Been there and done that.
I emailed a complaint to head office once.
They forwarded it to the local shop I was complaining about.
The local shop then sent me an abusive email.
I sent that to headoffice and they didnt care.
I just never went back and if anyone asks my opinion I tell them.

Likewise purchased from BJ but no 'certificate' issued.
Will enter details at the Yokohama web site, as you did.
