I'm after opinions on this chainsaw. For the price and its intended use it seems okay. It will get used for small work around home and get thrown in the vehicle when off camping. Not a Husqvarna v Stihl debate please.

I realise it is probably Chinese build but many years ago we used to talk about "Jap Junk" and it's okay now.

Only reason I would buy another Huski is because I want a bigger one! Mine has been reliable, starts easy, and plenty of grunt. Personally I rate them well, and I don't sell them.

Mate I've owned one for the last year or two, have taken it away on a few camping trips now, best purchase ever for a fella who loves a good campfire, and who likes to muckabout with a bit of camp oven cooking.... did way too many years without a chainsaw, biggest mistake..... actually still shaking my head at why I never bought one earlier.
I've got a Husky 236e, I always store it away empty of fuel, and always make up 1ltr of fresh stuff for when I'm going camping (1ltr cuts a load of fire wood), never used 1 ltr, actually don't think I've ever emptied a tank... it's a great little chainsaw..... buy one, you'll love it.
Oh and it's always started easy...

I'm guessing that people here have bought from Treestuff (wished it was freestuff). How does it compare after postage, customs costs etc and how is warranty?

I got mine from a local dealer not online. Got it on a deal with the case and the other stuff.

I bought mine from Peters Mowers here in Cairns....... great service from these fellas, even given me a quick free lesson on saw sharpening........ good fellas!!

comparison really is based on models,
I got some chaps a while back from treestuff, Very reasonable vendor.
as for saws with the entry level and landowner models the difference isnt as much an issue after postage, its with the Pro range the numbers definitely fall in your favour by a large margin. and a little less so over 1k as the Duty kicks in, and you will already be paying US sales tax if you go through a 3rd party to dodge the geographical block.
I May have got a saw from treestuff,if they stocked the mighty 346xp,
In the end I got a Stihl MS 261 sent over from a 3rd party the US which cost me $716 landed as opposed to $1250 locally.
both these saws are monsters of the 50cc class.
I wouldn’t think a home-owner 38cc saw would be worth the bother of importing.

So if you are only going to have one chainsaw ( not a big one and a small toy) and will taking camping and sometimes there are large fallen trees to cut and burn,
Q1. 14" or 16"
Q2. What would the minimum power and engine size recommended ie 35cc 1.5kw

chain width also comes into play as the kerf size will use more or less power.
I comfortably run a 20" bar on my 261 because it runs .325 chain,
if i were running 3/8 i wouldn’t put any bigger than a 16" bar on it, but because i dont want to be mucking round changing sprockets i run .325 on my 16" bar as well.
i wouldn’t think too many 35-38 cc saw would pull a chain through hardwood with any great efficiency riding on any more than a 14" bar.

I am trying to make my mind up between spending my money on a stihl ms181 or a ms211 (small kerf chain) or ms231. I don't like wasting cash but I don't like toys.

Or just grab one of them $100 jobbies from the green shed/mitre 10 etc
They're throw away's, but they're good enough for your intended use. Mine's about 2 1/2 yr old now, and does the job for camping, the good one stays at home :)

Have a look at amazon.com for Husqvarna chainsaws a lot cheaper than local and postage is good if you buy from amazon and not a 3rd party seller.

I brought a McCulloch (Husqvarna) CS 420T with a 18" bar for $210 and it's a beauty.
Just change the safety chain for a good one and you can't go wrong.
I've cut up red gum etc like a hot knife thru butter and 18" is big enough if you come across that larger tree across the road.
I would buy from a local shop just incase you need backup support.
