hi all,
a bit of a strange one, but...
i will be in melbourne for a few days soon and i was wondering what other might recommend to see...
i know that there are plenty of big things to see, but i am more looking for ideas that are within walking distance from market street (where i'm staying).
happy to walk a while to get to see something interesting... just would like to not be in the hotel all the time...
stuff open at night would also be useful...

Bring warm clothes and. Wet weather coat if planning on being outside.
You into sport?
Melbourne Storm NRL or AFL game a great time out.
Lindsay Fox Car Collection
The Big Wheel at Docklands now turning.
During the day there's a free tourist tram loop which you can get off and on at many places.
What other interests do you have?

Take a walk into the city lane ways to get a sense of what melba is all about. if you love aussie liquor( careful how you say that ) friend has opened a new bar not far from the city that has all australian whisky, gin, beer….called Bad Frankie. Have a whisky and they make jaffles for eats….So good.

There is a huge variety of restaurants of different styles and prices. I recommend using the urbanspoon website to narrow down your options. If you like different food then somewhere different each night. http://www.urbanspoon.com/n/71/7105/Melbourne/CBD-restaurants (http://www.urbanspoon.com/n/71/7105/Melbourne/CBD-restaurants)
Similarly there are heaps of bars, many in the small lanes and streets, that may interest you http://www.hiddencitysecrets.com.au/Bars_Melbourne (http://www.hiddencitysecrets.com.au/Bars_Melbourne)
There is a great sports museum at the MCG but it is only open during the day :'(
Don't forget live muic, theatre, comedy etc Sometimes there are some bargains here http://www.halftixmelbourne.com/ (http://www.halftixmelbourne.com/)

1.Get down to ACDC lane and into the cherry bar. Love a good pub that has your feet sticking to the carpet ;D
2.Also go have a Pot & parma @ Mrs Palmas I think its little Collins up the top end near spring street great range of Victorian micro brews on tap
3.If your looking for a good steak head into Squires loft in Goldie lane.
Plenty of laneways & streets with underground bars which are great on a cold night.

I went down that way once for a few days work, enjoyed the food and coffee scene.
There was this little Italian coffee shop that was kinda narrow had an old bar running the length with a little kitchen out the back that you could sit in and eat whatever pasta they had on the old stove. Had real character about it.
I think it was called pengarllies or something.

and if you want hardcore sticky carpet and great live music. Head down to the Espy in St Kilda.
