Title: Kinked 12v air compressor hose - fixable?
Post by: fisher on May 13, 2014, 01:41:59 PM
My 12v air compressor hose has developed a kink, very close to the coupling that connects the hose to the unit.  The hose is the typical (cheap?) yellow coiled plastic hose that comes with a lot of compressors.  The compressor itself wasn't particularly cheap and has performed well to date.

My question - is it possible to cut and refix this plastic hose to the coupling?  I've been tempted to take a spanner to the coupling but didn't want to muck around with it in case I rendered it totally useless.    I guess I could run the compressor to generate some heat, apply some pressure and try to take the kink out?

I'll probably end up replacing the hose and keeping it as a spare.

cheers

Shouldn't be a problem
Just undo it, chop off the damaged bit and refit the hose.
You'll probably need to warm up the hose  with hot water during refitting.
You'll see when you undo it.

For what its worth can I suggest changing out the supplied yellow hose with a better quality [ heavier duty  ] unit ... say this as our original yellow hose when used fairly continuous to pump up truck / trailer tyrescouldnt handle the  build up of heat close to the hose connector and melted / formed a plastic bubble and popped ... got to be very frustrating redoing the hose for each tyre ...
