Looking to get a swag for our nearly 2 year old son shortly.
We are are over the portacot and he is just about to start sleeping in a "normal" bed at home, so we hope this is the right time to start home off in a swag on the floor in the camper or maybe on a stretcher bed ?
What ages have others got their kids sleeping in a swag from ?
What is the best swag for the little guy ?

Hi Matt,
I purchased a couple of Kulkyne single swags for our kids 5yo and 2yo.
For overnight stop we just have the swags on the floor of the camper, for longer stays the swags sit on top of a camp stretcher. The kids absolutely love them.
We were a bit worried about the young fella in a swag, but he sleeps better in his swag than what he does at home in his bed.
The Kulkyne dome swags are brilliant. Very quick and easy to set up and seem to be pretty good quality for the $$.
We store the swags flat on top off the bed, so they can be setup for a quick overnight stop without any hassles.

Our 3 kids (9y, 7y & 4y) sleep in Rays Outdoors kids swags, in kid sized sleeping bags. Have had them for 18mths. They all fit on the floor of the camper, or when suits, they set up outside. I find when they are outside, the first night they tend to forget they're zipped up and tend to freak out. After that all good.

We have miss 2 and mr 6 in ARB swags and they LOVE them. ARB have a purple and blue swag in kids sizes and fit inside the camper trailer free standing. In time they may move outside.
So far so good!

Does anybody have a kids indoor swag/bed roll for when they have sleepovers at their friends' or grandparents' place?

If you are going to buy a swag for kids I would just buy a normal adult single swag. It will last them for years. I got mine (paid for out of my own cattle money(pocket money for farm kids!)) when I was about 6. I had it until I was about 27-28 before some ars@hole stole it off the roof of a Ruby before we went to Tasmania a few years ago. Still in great condition. That was with heaps of use camping, cattle camps, boarding school & many B&S's as uni students over the years!
Get them/let them buy a good one, show them how to treat it with pride & it will last forever.

Agree also with some other posts, buy a normal size swag (never know when u or a mate might need it). :cheers:
Buy the best one u can, we've got 5 at home, all different brands, some bought 2nd hand, one from ebay, mine i got a hardware shop in Charters Towers and one is a burke n wills, which is a pretty good unit too.......
Another tip is to grab a set of those double bunk beds, leave the bed frames set up, even rivet then together, store them flat on or under ur matress in the ct. When u set up u only need to put the upright sections together, which will only take a minute.
The youg fella can sleep on the bottom bunk, the top bunk can be used for your clothes bags etc, gets them up off the floor, and makes sorting through them easier, no crouching down etc........

Our little guy has been sleeping in a full size swag since his 2nd birthday in July, he sleeps very well in it and stays very warm. Best thing we ever did.

Second the thought of getting an adult size swag. My boys 8&10 have been in full size swags for about 4 yrs now, by the time you put a decent sleeping bag, pillow, maybe a rug and a few soft toys, they fill them up pretty quick. My guys love theirs.

A tip I recently learnt the hard way is, don't let them "borrow" your own swag. My 11yo son recently "borrowed" my good Southern Cross swag for a scout camp.
I have to buy myself a new one now. He won't give it back.
His is apparently too small, he can't fit his bag in it, and his gear gets wet when it rains.

OK you've convinced me, now to find a swag that's more of a bed roll. It will get more use inside at sleepovers than 'roughing' it outside...

My two kids have been in dome swags for awhile now, they love them. After the first time we used them, they rolled them out in their bedrooms. Pretty comfy too, I've taken them up the territory and camped in one of them.
