Title: Info or opinions on AUSTRAK Campers
Post by: LetMeOutaHere on April 14, 2014, 12:01:42 PM
Hi All,
Looking to upgrade from a small caravan to a CT and I am somewhat bewildered by the choices available. One I have seen that fits my criteria is AUSTRAK out of Hervey Bay in QLD. Any info or opinions from someone familiar with these would be appreciated.

PS. A great forum that has kept me entertained and amused since discovering it.

Cheers,
Wayne.

Hesitant to reply after just reading through the thread on mirageRV (as this is my first post) but we brought an austrack a few months ago, just the Chinese semi off road galvanised trailer & am pretty happy with it. Had to re do the plumbing because the cheap air style fittings we rusting already & you couldn't use the outside tap without first opening the tailgate & connecting the two fittings in the kitchen. Their Australian made trailers looked great but that wasn't in our budget. They have a new style tent (we have the old style) which looks better I think with the shape of the doors & few little differences. But getting the old style they throw in the draw bar room & a 2nd screen annex. The ladder is horrible too, I just screwed some decking to mine & that solved the problem.

Hi, I have had my Austrack tent for 4 years now, and it has been very good so far, I think they are one of the better chinese tents, mine only gets used a couple of times a year and is stored outside in the weather & the cover has stood the test of time well, plus all the poles seem to be well galvanised.
I hope this has helped.

X 2.  Welcome to the forum, there are a few answers already, I'm sure there are more owners out there who may come along soon with further insights into Austrack.  I believe that they have been around for a long time and their tents are a very good quality from china.

I bought a 2nd hand austrak tent with trailer from Waituirob here on myswag. It's been good to us on the half dozen trips and was well liked and used by the previous owners. IT seems to be wearing well and has no damage that I'm aware of. The third hoop pivot modification makes set up and pack up  breeze.

The coolest thing about ours is the camo colours.

Welcome to the forum mate. I haven't had any experience with their trailers but we have an austrack tent on our trailer and it has been great. We have the 12ft with the long drop (1200mm) and it is pretty easy to set and pack up. The quality of the canvas seems good and we had no water leaks after 4 lots of heavy hose downs during the seasoning process. If you do get one, opt for the storm cover as well as it is a perfect fit, easy to put on and keeps the canvas protected.

Hi Guys,
Glad to see you are enjoying the camo camper, if old age hadn`t caught up with us we would not have sold it :'(
We miss it sometimes, there are some great campsites where you just can`t take a caravan :D
A pic for old times sake.

Cheers, Robyn

Thanks for the replies.  Have to offload the van first.then we will start the process. Have loads of mods lined up for whatever we end up with (mostly picked up from here), loads of gear from the van and camping trips and some fantastic places to camp around my area particularly along the Murray River. The family are all dead keen campers as well. Will keep everyone posted as we progress.

Cheers,
Wayne.

At least you can get a start on the trailer.

Personally I would HIGHLY recommend buying something from closer to home..

If you need things fixed, or unhappy with it, its a long drive to the manufacturer....

Speedcomm I just used 3 x M5 bolts on each rung & gave it a few coats of oil. Looks impressive too compared to original round steel.
