Title: Back to the land of the employed
Post by: DaveR on April 10, 2014, 07:46:20 PM
Hi Ya Swaggers
For just on 18 months now I have been out of work thanks to the Wife’s Cancer.
Now that the battle has been done and dusted in our favor, it is back to work for me.
So, I’ll be off to Edinburgh tomorrow and joining a vessel somewhere near by for 6 weeks.
The work I do is in the offshore Oil and Gas Industry; I work as a Dive Systems Tech for Saturation Diving Systems.

How we survived my not working for so long I’ll never know, but I would like to suggest folks that you have a look at critical illness insurance for your selves, it is the reason we have a roof over head and went on a few camping trips. Sure, it wasn’t in the big twin axle Expanda with bathroom the wife wanted, but it was good none the less.
Big day today washing the CT down from the Straddie trip, now she is packed away to wait for when I get 6 weeks off on my return.

All things well, we’ll have paid off our borrowings by the middle of the year.

We live to have fun another day.
Hopefully I'll be able to loiter on here whilst away.

Catch ya's soon Swaggers, I'll see 1 of you on a Camp Chair 1 day.

Cheers
Dave

Sure did, went to some great camp spots with a CT that sports some great mods, most of which came from Swaggers.

A great story, others here in similar circumstances of being a bit down and out due to family issues and illnesses should look at this for inspiration.

Congratulations to you, the missus and your family on getting over this horrendous disease. Mate we have friends going through a similar scenario but their outlook doesn't look as positive as yours is.  I bet you have a new perspective on life because of your family's ordeal?

Your job sounds very interesting, are you doing the actual diving or are you controlling the dive and recovery of the divers?  I watched a doco recently on those oil rig divers in the north sea, very brave folk.  Good luck whilst your away.

I was a Diver, but not the deep saturation type, just running about the harbours etc, now I am a tech who maintains the equipement.
If the doco is the 1 I am thinking of, on the Skandi Artic, she is a beautiful vessel alright, I am the guy who did not feature in that show, the guy who fixed the cotter pin is me. Think of me as Scotty in the engine room.

No not yet, did use it when I changed the way the camper bed opens up, to hold the bed open when removing the gas struts. don't think that counts for much glory work though.

Yep, 15 years for me also just now, what other jobs gives 6 months holiday per year, so I should not complain, but I do anyway.....

Yeah Dave, that was the doco.  Beautiful ship, you could be a hand model after that scene with the cotter pin

I had better clarify that it was not me in that doco, I have not worked on that vessel.
What I should have said is what that guy does is what I do for a job. Dive Techs maintain all the diving kit you see in that doco.

Arrgggghh!, Its great to be back in Scotland, we're parked key side on the 4th River just now, blowing 40 Knotts outside and is about 4 deg c, oh, and its warming up too  ;D
