Title: Food
Post by: barraboy on March 21, 2014, 01:45:53 PM
Just wondering what others are contemplating with regards to Food on this years trip. It seems from the itinerary that we will need to be self sufficient from  the first Saturday night right up to the 2nd Tuesday we are away before arriving at Siesha. That makes 10 nights/days of food to provide. Yogi cant be expected to cook pizzas for all of us every night.

I for one, will be trying to camp next to Dougie for his legendary breakfast of Liver and Bacon. Bloody fantastic and my young bloke is already talking about it.

I am going to pre cook several meals and take frozen. Cant have too much time taken cooking when happy hour is on.

Just live off Just live off the land, bush tucker and road kill with the occasional Duggie feast thrown in.

Food, your kidding, I am having trouble working out how much beer I need to take.

As a guide 7 beers a day plus 6 glasses of spirits. Factor in sitting around drinking and eating, the temperature during the day, E=MC2 works out to be at least 4 cartons beer, 2x bottles scotch , 2 x bottles American Honey and what Penny wants to drink if there is any room left.   ;D

We may have to sacrifice someone if we run low on food  >:D

Barraboy, I to have a similar plan in mind, (well the wife does  ;D) we plan on doing the pre made meals for when we are travelling, and when stopped try and do a fresh meal for the kids.

We are also thinking once we hit the tracks we will do some easy meals for the kids mainly, sausage sangas, hot dogs and the like, only because I don't like our chances of dragging them away from the swimming holes when on telly track, and other great spots.

As for planning our meals, we will do a resupp of food at each of the larger locs on our travels, Cairns, Bamaga, Weipa etc, and from there just wing it, with some frozen meat and canned stuff as a back up plan.

All in all, there is a steak and vegies in every can/stubbie for me...... ;D ;D ;D ;D.

Now.....could the 21st of Jun hurry up....!!!!

Swanny

The following places are set up for tourists along the way:

Hahn River: Food and Fuel

Musgrave: Food and Fuel.....we normally stop here for lunch.

Coen: Food and Fuel....small grocery store

Archer River: Food and Fuel...Overnight stop

Bramwell Junction: Food and Fuel......Last place until Seisia....fuel up and morning tea stop before hitting the OTL.

Weipa has a woolworths.

Most times its easier to grab a burger from these places when we stop overnight.

During the day it is handy to have wraps or sandwiches pre made for when we stop during the day.

Mark, thanks for the info, and good advice regarding the overnight stops, pretty much what we like to do when touring ourselves.

Always good to put a bit of cash into the local places whilst away also, im sure it helps them out, and makes life a bit easier all round when you grab a burger, rather then making dinner etc.

thanks again.
