Title: Somewhere to go camping
Post by: maverick01 on February 10, 2014, 07:59:07 PM
Hi guys and gals,

The better half and I have got 5 days off work next week and we are looking for somewhere relaxing to go camping. The setup we have is a lifestyle 360 offroad camper with the tug being an 05 GU.

Now our problem is we want to go somewhere within 3-5hours of south side of Brisbane. The better half wants to camp on the beach however I haven't had enough time to rust proof the patrol yet. We would like somewhere where you could possibly do some fishing, kayaking, sight seeing and mainly just relaxing as we need to escape the crap that we are dealing with at present.

We are trying to avoid the usual camp grounds and 4wd parks as we have done majority of the places in and around Brisbane but I'm hoping somewhere can give us a different place to visit.

We do have 2 dogs that we would like to take away but if not the parents can baby sit for a few days. We are self sufficient in the way of water (175 litres to be exact) and we also have a generator or if they don't allow generators then we will pay for a powered site as we need power for the wife's medical condition.

I do realise that this is a big ask but I'm sure everyone could come up with some great ideas.

Cheers

For 5 days I wouldn't be to concerned about rust proofing unless you intend on parking it in the water. Just give it a really good bath when you get home or better still, if it's swmbo that wants to be by the beach, get her to do it ;)

See how controlled I was about the Datsun / rust thing

Thanks Marcus,

However I know it's only 5days but I'm just really pedantic about this car than any other 4wd I have ever owned. If we can't find somewhere decent to go then looks like the beach it is.

Here is a list of some of the camping locations on the southern Darling Downs.

Warwick is about 2 hours from the Brisbane CBD.   Stanthorpe area another 40 minutes.  The Darling Downs is generally a few degrees cooler than below the range.

you could always head down to The Gorge on the Clarence River where a heap of swaggers went for Australia Day weekend. no idea what the fishing is like, but the pics Selwyn (4wd26) posted up of his visit there last year looked great with the kyaking up the river they did there. http://theclarencegorge.com/index.html (http://theclarencegorge.com/index.html)
