Title: Good quality torch - for around the house
Post by: MarkVS on February 05, 2014, 06:18:32 AM
Have a couple of the big Dolphin torches, with the huge batteries, with the old style bulbs,  for around the house..and they're driving me nuts.

Has anyone got any suggestions of some good quality (smaller), well made torches...Don't need to be made of metal, don't need to go in the ocean or pool, but be able to be used outside if it is raining, and throw a good light, take smaller batteries, LED, and be reliable .

Thanks

For around the house I like the ones that are rechargeable that have a charging dock - that way they are always ready to go and you don't have to change batteries.

For around the house it doesnt need to be too flash (no pun intended).   You don't need mega lumens to change a fuse or find what's fallen under the couch.
If one of the intended uses is for blackouts then an LED lantern would be good; something that can throw a broad light and light up a room and last for a few hours.

My dad is pretty much blind, and wanted some lantern thing he saw on tele (one of them dodgey shopping channels) to help him when he drops the Tele remote or lookin in the pantry.

Went to Rays and got him this

Very good and rechargeable and throws out an excellent light. Rubber coated so it can withstand a fall or 2.
Highly recommend.

I really like my ryobi torch, uses the same batteries as my drill etc.

I use it every night to go look at the lemon tree and do a little security watch around the paddock. also looking for rabbits, foxes etc. It shines up about 100m..

using it in the house looking for things that are lost in blind corners etc.

its good on globes but yeah, old fashioned halogen or something. Hope they bring out a LED one soon.

But as we live on property its handy for us, may not suit your needs.

For the past few months I've been using a Narva work light as my general purpose light -

http://www.narva.com.au/products/browse/heavy-duty-high-powered (http://www.narva.com.au/products/browse/heavy-duty-high-powered)

It has a magnet so when we go camping, I can use it as a portable light that can attach to the trailer, or use the hook to hang.

X2 on the Ryobi, had mine for a while and it works great, i think it was only $29 from the big green shed (so long as you already have the 1+ battery)
