If you buy a camper trailer (private sale) interstate and are having it transported by truck back to you.
What is the best method of paying the money to the other person so they get the money and you get the camper trailer.

The only 100% certain way is take a road trip...
but if you cant take the road trip do a bank transfer so you have a name and Shit for the cops to work off if it isn't what it says it is.

I met my interstate seller halfway when we purchased the storm. I have checked out cars and campers for fellow swaggers from out of town prior to purchasing. Least that way you know where they are and I always check Id and paperwork for the purchaser. A revs check or similar is also essential. If you have a relo close or a good mate that would be good as well. Baring that post up to see if any fellow members are able to check it out prior to purchase. Good luck

I wouldn't part with any hard earned unless I saw the camper....too many scammers out there and it does happen often..... Good idea to make a road trip to make sure that it exists and to pick up.... could save you a lot of pain

I agree. Be careful.

I don't see any sure way apart from a physical meet.
Not unless the seller is willing to part with the CT for you to inspect and then wait for payment. Fiche does I have a bridge to sell.

When I did it I had D4D check it out for me and once he gave me the ok on the trailer, I had the owner send a copy of his drivers license, trailer rego papers and a signed letter stating the sale once money had been received via bank transfer. I wouldn't have done it without having it seen in the flesh first and having proof of purchase.
Sent from the machine that goes..... Bing!

I paid a relatively small deposit and then transferred remainder upon safe arrival and 'as described'. This only occured after we established some kind of a repoire (sp?), along with photo ID, drivers licence and copy of rego papers etc..

Well so far I have his Name, mobile number, email and what area he lives in.
I have spoken to him over the phone and said he works for linfox transport.
so i put in his name and area he lives into google and what did i find, same name and works at linfox on LinkedIn (picture of him) as Commercial and Development Manager at Linfox.
So now i will get him to email a copy of his drivers licence and rego papers. to compare photos.
I asked him what way do you want to do the payment for camper and he said half at the start and the other half when i pick it up.

another thing you can do is get him to send you new photos - ie not the ones that are in his ad on gumtree or whatever. It will give some assurance the camper actually exists as described
-
Don't forget to do a check on the vehicle securities register for theft or money owing. Ask for actual photo's of the VIN and id tag.
I wonder if there is a service out there that assists with interstate purchases? Pre-inspection, payment, shipping, insurance, etc?

Yes I already got new photo's from him in areas that I have asked for.

Why don't you ask a myswag member in the local area go and have a look at it for you...
-
Saw it on Gumtree. Went to Sydney to look at it and meet the owner and his wife. Made an offer. Accepted. Came back to Canberra paid a deposit for him to take it off the market. Three weeks later transferred the balance to his account and made arrangements to pick it up. More than happy - both parties.

Where are you and where is the CT.
Perhaps there is my-swag member who could check it out for you.
I wouldn't be keen about handing over a wad of money without seeing item

Never without personal inspection IME.
Saves heart ache down the track.
After personal face to face meet and inspection then COD with vendor as you hitch it up with no doubts in your mind as to ID/ownership/reg. papers.
Why do I say this ? Met a Nth NSW vendor in ACT to look at a very nicely described KK, happy to give him some $$$'s for fuel to get there.
We are talking asking price round $30K.
Inspected, listened to stories of towing thru' 1M+ of water. Noted wear and tear and repairs needed to things like badly scored discs, zero brake pads left etc......said thanks but no thanks seeya !
I'd have been bitterly disappointed if bought sight unseen.
Sincerely hope it all works out for you.

I had similar issue..me in Melb and camper north if Sydney. I could not get up too see camper for 5 weeks...so we agreed for me to pay a non refundable holding deposit of $100 to show I was interested and if I was not 100% satisfied when I saw the camper in the flesh, it would be back on the market.
When I made the trip, I carried bank cheque for half the of the purchase price and did a swift funds transfer from my bank with the owner seeing the funds in his bank some hours later .
Then I hitched it up and drove back to Melb!
