Title: Steam Mops
Post by: Rodt on January 26, 2014, 06:22:02 PM
G'Day All,

Was wondering if anyone on here has an opinion / suggestion on steam mops. Online reviews are all over the place so reckon this may be the best place to ask. The wife is looking to get one for the house and I reckon that it may be good tool on the camper vinyl floor or even getting stains out of canvas prior to re-waterproofing. First things first any good or bad reviews on a brand / model for the house and I will worry about the CT afterwards.

Thanks

Rod

We have one purchased off one of those cheesy commercials that has actually worked great over the last few years, gets used on the carpet rugs which brings them up great, not sure of the brand name though

Bought 1 from evil bay which had great reviews, paid $120.00 can't give you the brand coz it went in the bin. Useless as mammaries on a bull.  >:(
If it's for general cleaning at home get a good mop/bucket and use a 10% mix of cleaning vinegar($3.00 for 2lt) with water, use on nearly everything except carpet  :cup: :cup: :cup: :cup: :cup:

MIL bought one, gave it to the Missus after figgering it was useless, after some weeks it ended up in the shed, then I cut the cord off it to use on something and the rest went to the dump. (yes i am a licensed electrician, oops this isn't the electrical thread)

Seen those shark lift away 5in1 advertised on telly, seem to work allright.

Thanks so far everyone. The reviews online are all over the place so any indication of specific models would be good to know.

BD we were looking at the Shark lift away also due to the tv ads but they don't ever want to tell you the price and would rather crap on about free for a month, get 2 for the price of one etc etc. i don't want 2 and just want to know the price  ???. I wonder what genius came up with that marketing strategy. Anyway reviews are mixed also on these.

Markg66 & xcvator sounds like you had the problem I am trying to avoid. Berlitza if you do come across the brand name please share

Apart from sterilizing the dirt, I can't see these mops doing much more than diluting the dirt and spreading it everywhere.

I reckon they're two for the price of one for a reason ????

Mum has a Kambrook one (pretty sure that's the brand) and it's been going strong for about four years. She's happy with it.

Thanks All,

Mrs smith you could very well be right but there appear to be plenty of people that reckon they are pretty good. lilstookie sounds like you think the same as me. Thanks for the heads up on Kambrook I will pass on to the wife

Hi Rod, It's got h20 stamped on it, but not sure if that's the brand name or not, its a blue base with a white handle and approx 3yrs old, the person that uses it luvs it and must admit it does do a decent job on the rugs ( which is what it was orginally purchased for)

Thanks Berlitza,

I think there was a brand going around and advertising hard on TV called H2O. Good to hear that it has been a good purchase. As mentioned previously the reviews on these things are all over the place so it is bloody hard to work out what is good and what isn't.

funny this should come up. Am off to Big W on the weekend to buy the one below, all for $58. Has good reviews and a good warranty.

The wallet wishes we had bought a Piranha for $58  :'(

Arrived home yesterday and noted a Bissell steam mop in the house that apparently was a great buy discounted to $269 + with the 5 year full replacement warranty = $300. Asked how did it perform and got allright for an answer.  I would have thought for $300 the bloody thing would have cleaned the floors, done the washing up and the laundry

we bought the X5 and it was great but it didn't last long. we'd get another if we had some confidence that whgatever we bought would last
