Hi All,
Saw this in Anaconda this morning.

Has anyone any experience with these. I realise they will not work in humid areas but was wondering how they would function in a dry hot climate. Have "googled" but cannot find any reviews.

Thought I'd refresh a thread as I've just been to the SA Caravan and Camping Show and picked up a Companion Maxi Evaporative Cooler for $109. It was their last one running on display although other suppliers had them for $140-$149 at the Show. Apparently $159.95 recommended retail but a search showed Snowys have them for $135 if you're interested in a 240V/12V fan/cooler-

It's a pretty neat unit with its own gel battery onboard that is stated to run 6.5hrs on its own but it also comes with a 240V AC to 12V adapter plus a 12V only cig adapter and both will run the unit with the gel battery disconnected so your choice. The tank unclips from the bottom to empty or clean it out but you add 1200ml of water through the top flap to fill and refill it according to the water level gauge. 2 speed fan with or without the water cooling and if the water runs low the water pump cuts out, as the whole unit does with the tip over cut out switch on the bottom All in all a compact package, easy to use, foolproof and chucks out a nice breeze to boot. Longevity to be advised ;D

Make sure you clean and dry them properly after use. Have used a big household one they kind of work and mold loves them.

Saw the neat Transcool portable at the show too and when you check out the video you'll see it offers a bit more sophistication and very nice variable airflow with adjustable outlet nozzles and the extra collapsible tank but the price goes up around $300- https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=hK_lfsXwcac (https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=hK_lfsXwcac) so I settled for the Companion to keep the missus happy (yeah yeah, I know, nothing's too good for my missus but then she already has me remember 8))
