Title: What are people mounting on the front of there campers.
Post by: BLKWDW on September 28, 2013, 07:08:30 PM
Like the posts states what besides toolboxes are people mounting on the front of there campers. Toolbox is the most common but i have my tools etc already setup in my 4b. It was used for a couple dirt bikes but now they have there own trailer. Storage yes but most stuff i take fits in the camper body. Was thinking the icebox maybe in its own enclosure also the fridge but like having it at the back of the camperfor when we use the kitchen.

I have a large tool box and the spare.
In the tool box I store chain saw, porta pottie and the battery. The porta pottie sits in its own water tight box. I put these items up front so if something goes wrong like a fuel leak it does't affect anything in the main trailer. My tools are in a tool bag that sits ontop of the chainsaw and recovery gear is stored in water tight bags on the roof of the prado.

Normally mine has the spare and tool box, but ive never used the box to store tools, mainly stick generator / chainsaw in there all the pegs and ropes couple of spares and parts to kids tents, we did have the battery in the box but recently decided to make a box on the side for it.

Spare is going to be moved to tailgate as we dont use it when camping.

Im sticking another 9kg bottle on the side so may just end up sticking the bike rack on the drawbar so kids can go for a ride.

Gas bottle, fire pit ,2x Jerry's , large aluminium box for everything but tools, kids bike + stone guard and fire extinguisher,   Reading all that I think I need a bigger drawbar but it's all on there.

My thoughts are, if you already carry everything you need, why have anything on there? It just adds more  weight for no reason. Unless you have something In particular to go there, don't put something there just cause you have the space.
If anything, you could make a low profile cage/ bed to throw some firewood on?

We set up one of the spare wheels to bolt flat on the A frame behind the stone protector, and bolted a tool box above that with clearance to remove the spare. Then riveted aluminium angles to the toolbox top to sit the chemical dunny in it, and hinged a clip down frame to stop it bouncing out. The ITPBITB (Impossible To Put Back In The Bag) ensuite tent slips in behind that for fast roadside breaks.
All this worked fine until the sun killed the dunny bag, but that will be an easy fix.
I did hope thieving kids would think it was the fridge sitting up there, and try dunking for coldies, but no luck with that yet.
Cheers
