Title: Intro post
Post by: ac cob on August 19, 2013, 01:40:01 PM
Hi Everybody,

I’ve been waiting to write my intro as I know  :worthles:

A little history first, I have 3 kids, one has just left home and two in high school. My fiancé, who also loves camping, has two kids that had never been camping until we took them away at Easter this year to Peach Trees, Jimna. So now we have 5 kids between 17yrs & 6yrs that absolutely love the outdoors and all it has to offer.

I’ve been camping since I was 10yrs old firstly in tents, then a swag when I was 17yr old for about 11yrs which of those 11 yrs I spent 11 yrs in the Australian Army. I took a break from camping after that as the Army took the edge off what I used to call camping. I then thought it was time to get back in to it when my 2nd child came in to the world and bought a Cavalier soft floor camper. Had that for about 10yrs moving onto a short 2 yr stint with a Coromal PS422 campervan then back to tents after the “settlement” and now what I think is the pinnacle of camping, a Kimberley Kamper Special Edition with boat loader! Finally everything I used to dream of in the one package.

I have to agree with all the welcomes I have read on here that there is a lot of great people with great knowledge & great ideas. I hope to contribute equally to this forum. I have some planned minor mods to the Kamper as there isn't much to improve on with something so perfect (Yeah I'm biased) plus mods to the Prado coming up.

So here it is, what everyone wants to see, Camper Porn!

Guy

Welcome. Your set up looks awesome. Did you buy the KK new?

Will be keen to hear how the Prado goes towing it and what mods you have planned. We are considering options for replacing our Pajo and the Prado (120/150?) is on the shortlist.  Of course the drawbar weight of the KK is always a consideration, but we are certainly not changing our KK. They are the ducks nuts. You will never look back. We too have the boat loader.

What kind of boat do you carry (or plan to)?

Thanks everyone for the welcome, it's good to be a part of a forum that from what I've seen/read is very friendly. Long story from another forum not related to camping at all.

Stozz, Yes bought it new after attending the Brisbane camping show. I had been looking at one for about 12 months and finally got my arse in to gear and ordered just after the show, 6 week delivery which was good.

Have only towed it back from the dealer to home about 50km, I had a Coromal campervan that weighed in at 210kg ball weight and the Prado handled it no problem, this is a dream so far. Will find out in the September holidays as we are heading off for our first trip outside of the backyard.

I have a Quintrex 3.7m Dart with a 18Hp Tohatsu  that I bought 12 months ago with the sole reason being able to fit it on the KK. It's pretty much the biggest you will get on there, width & length wise. KK also say anything over 100Kg is difficult to handle, mine weighs 90Kg.

Cheers,
Guy
