Hi all
New to the forum and after some advice. Live on the Gold Coast, 2 of us, 10 and 12 yr old daughters and have camped in OzTents for years.
We are now looking for something that gives us quick setup and pack-up and sleeps 4 comfortably. After the quick turn-around as trips we have planned are long daily drives. Longer stays will happen as well so adding room/awning/annexe options is good. Independent suspension is preferred but not compulsory.
Is there a list on here that people could point me to to start the search? Probably prefer hard floor and have a budget of $20k so 2nd hand is where we are looking.
Anyhow, thanks in anticipation and hope to contribute back along the way with mods etc.
Cheers
Pete

Have a gander here, not sure how up to date it is.

Lots of ppl on here have CUB campers, you should be able to buy an extremely nice CUB camper to suit your needs..
But yes lots of others to choose from...
CUB are very reliable and have a good customer service outlet and almost all around australia..
Australian built using aussie steel and aussie canvas..

problem with that list is it is VERY outdated. many of them have gone toes up
There will be a Green Cub up forsale very soon on the forum.
$20,000 will buy you an almighty used soft floor, and you will end up with more useable space and loads more storage. They arent that much slower to setup.

There's a few of us who have a hard floor leisure matters camper (or similar). Even with all the upgrades and the mods you'll want to make, $20k will do you nicely and get you a grwat camper. There is a "roll call" thread for us to all chat, but I'm on the iPhone so can't post the link. Ill try and rember tonight.

I agree with Socks. I have enclosed my CT build thread and (Weso's and Socks) to give you a few ideas. If you are handy with tools etc, these imported trailers make your money go a long way so long as you are prepared to spend a little extra time and money in modifications. Muz

Thanks guys. The Leisure Matters import/local hybrid does seem goos value. They remind me of a bit of a Jayco - they're cost effective, require a bit (lot) of work to toughen up but ultimately make a good investment. Will check the links out for the gotchas.
Yes, I would be interested in a Cub - a Kamparoo Brumby or offroad Supamatic or Spacematic. Keep me posted Lost.
Like most things, you don't really know how good/bad something is until you've used it for a while and by then it's too late to return for a refund :D

Go adn hire some trailers..
see what you like, and dont like.... much cheaper than spending 20k on a Shitbox.

Hi Pete
This is 4 I can think of off the top of my head that aren't in the 'slap 'em together category'. Cub would be my preference - but I'm prejudice ;D with Pioneer a close 2nd
Cub... http://www.cubcampers.com.au/ (http://www.cubcampers.com.au/)
Adrenalin... http://adrenalincampers.com.au/ (http://adrenalincampers.com.au/)
Kimberley Kampers... http://www.kimberleykampers.com/ (http://www.kimberleykampers.com/)
Pioneer Campers... http://www.pioneercampers.com.au/ (http://www.pioneercampers.com.au/)
-
Pete, it depends on how much you are prepared to spend. You can buy a Cub for around $20,000 or a top of the range Kimberley or AORC Odyssey for $60,000 - with build qualities and features proportional to cost!
-
Hi Pipeliner
I mentioned I wanted to spend about $20k, and for $60k I wouldn't be getting a KK or other camper, I'd be looking at a 2nd hand off-road caravan for that!
I've been thinking about the whole soft-floor issue and it makes sense size wise - hard floors are definitely aimed at couple or families with really young kids.
I do like the look of the Trackabout range now, could even push hard for a deal on an up-spec new one ;-)
Cheers

Mate, look in the trader section...
Theres some bargains to be had used... Like cars, let others lose the 'rolling it out the door' tax...

Hi guys,
Update: after hunting around for a few weeks, looking at a couple of shows and the pros/cons of hard/soft floors it looks like we have got ourselves a very nice 2nd hand Trackabout 4x4 Deluxe Tourer.
They seem very well built and not too much of a drama to setup and packup, and it'll go anywhere I want to take it. Wifey is very happy so life's good. Just don't like the hitch on it, might go for an OzHitch Conversion Kit.
Anyhow, look forward to contributing to the forum in some way and thanks for your help so far. Pick it up in a few weeks
.
Cheers
Pete

How come your MDC Market Direct Camper Trailer isn't listed on the official Australian manufacturers register? I read your passion for the product, and knowledge of things like how the tailgate and other things are not included as standard so thought I would ask directly. Thankyou as im sure other girls on here want to hear from a neutral person.. I am hoping you aren't a sales rep though The post on MDC tents is where I saw you

Hi work2play, I am not sure about the list you have mentioned, I haven't looked there before.
I am not a salesperson and not overly passionate about them but yes I do own one and just try to point out that sometimes you need to have a look with your own eyes for any of the brands (cheap or expensive)
I bought a MDC for the price as I was also planning to spend a lot more on a caravan so wanted something cheap.
We have used it a few times and have been happy with our purchase.
Our only dissatisfaction has been the canvas piece under the tailgate not being standard (listed as an option) and a small blemish or discolouration in the roof but as it doesn't affect us I have not even addressed with MDC.
The main point of my post have been you get what you pay for and if that means you want a cheap introduction or otherwise, have a look at used or the imports. They may suit your needs.

Just having another look at your rig (looks great) I noticed that the back left corner piece where the taillight attaches is slotted on the outside edge, is this for a purpose or just looks?

That's a good question, I think it's just for show. It's along the front edge and Jerry can holder above the sticker too.

I'm very curious why all the foreign camper trailers; Leisurematters, MDC Market Direct, ezytrail, Brumby, Lifestyle, Top trail and the others do not have a myswag show room? They all seem to go round touting in every single thread in my opinion. I understand why trackabout is allowed to do it because the boss of myswag bigjules is the representative and they have a showroom too.
Sorry to be a whinger but its a bit annoying trying to read genuine information for research when these guys fill up all the threads with bland hellos. It feels like its to get similar cheap camper trailer brand names looked at in the signatures. I do not want to seem rude but RobC is a lifestyle salesman aren't you? I read how proud everyone is of their overseas made trailers so why not answer questions in the right area according to the forum rules. Then we can all ask if and when we want to.

sorry haven't been here in my lunch break for awhile YNOT, so I do apologise for not replying. The list seems official but I cannot be sure as some aren't using the Australia made symbol, if that means anything

We are more than happy for any manufacturer to be represented on the forum. It is up to the individual company to start there own thread and display their products and deal with any questions or criticisms posed to them.
If you have some concerns with anyone's post please report them to a mod and they will be looked at
