I'm in the planning stage for our trip around OZ next year, and don't really want to be locked in to set bookings. Now our friends parents are in Broome at the moment and they are saying that you need to pre book at his time of year,if so how much notice should i give as i don't want to ave to leave somewhere nice just to meet a booking deadline.

Hi Frogman
Broome is probably one of the only towns in WA that is predominantly catering for tourists, and during tourists season, some of the price changes (they go up) show this. It is correct that at this time of year you would have to pre book, but I am sure if you PM Steve and Viv (they live in Broome) they would be ablt to give you accurate information.

It all depends on how you are travelling, if you are in a camper then you have the option to free camp if there is nothing available for a while. It also depends what time of year, I just did from Canberra to the Kimberley across the Gibb and back (May & June) in the early season and the traffic was building up. It would be hard to get a site in some parks in July and August but free camping would be somewhat easier if you didnt mind travelling a bit. I would never book ahead unless it was the same day I was expected to get there, just to check if a site was available. Some places have plenty of room and others fill up quick but if you dont need power then usually they can find room.
