Title: Best stroller for 3.5 year old
Post by: jimc1 on July 18, 2013, 09:02:12 PM
Hi all

After some advice on best type of stroller to assist us with our 3.5 year old who does not like to walk much. We are after something that is compact and good with offroad tracks.

We downsized to a Baby Jogger City Mini, seems to be ok not really 'offroad' but we have had it on a few gravel/grass tracks and it goes ok.

The Summit XC looks to be good for offroad

I think you may be hard pressed to find a stroller that is compact AND handles rough terrain. I have found that for better off road handling you need big tyres (preferably pump up).

Compact strollers usually have quite small wheels, often finding a one inch uneven path hard going.

We have found our Valco runabout great for offroad walking, even on the hard sand it worked well - soft sand not so goiod unless your prepared to drag it. That said it isn't compact or lightweight. I'm just happy I can give my 2.5yr old his bright yellow gumboots and he will happily walk so the pram rarely gets used

Like  Lori said you need pump up tyres as they tend to be bigger and better suited to gravel

I think you meant a backpack for the 3 1/2 to carry right.

Its a shame as older sister and brother a happy to walk 5+ kms, yet my littlest finds it hard to walk 800 metres to school and back. We do have the Phil and Teds pram, but we will not have the room for it when we head off around Oz.

We are off to Flinders Ranges/Arkaroola later this year for a 2 week shakedown. We will see how she goes on that trip. She might just surprise us all!

Not You ... Hubby! Throw in the old "I carried 3.5 for 9 months ... now it's your turn" saying should work.   ;D

I suppose you could try a little reverse *how ever ya spell it* on 3.5 ... Wave and say "Bye" as you all walk off (my olds did this a lot  ;D ) ... 3.5 will get the surprise of it's life when you are all waiting around the next corner.
