Title: Skills shortages and 457 Visa's
Post by: Wortho on July 02, 2013, 06:22:34 PM
I never thought Australia would have a shortage of Surfers, Emu farmers or Caravan Park managers ;D

Surely there are enough people already out of work in Oz to fill some of these positions!

My job is on the list and we are laying people off at the moment not hiring them.

I believe these people are not controlled under Australia min wage conditions - is that right?

cause Im sure when they say "shortage" they mean people don't want to work for $10/hr

These trades wouldn't be very short on, then again how about giving aussie kids apprenticeships and keeping the skillz here...

Temporary Skilled Migration Income Threshold (TSMIT) is the minimum wage that a 457 holder can be paid. It's currently set at $53,900.

Hate to say it but....457 visas are about controlling the workforce , nothing to do with so called Labour shortage... >:( >:(
