Title: Cooking in Weber
Post by: kiwi_camper on June 24, 2013, 07:40:32 PM
I am about to get a Weber and would like to know what is the best thing to cook cakes and bread in, in the Weber. I'm thinking a cast iron pot but I'm not sure if I want the extra weight and space it takes in the CT. Have others had the same or better success with other things and if so what?

Thanks for your help :D

The pizza stone and tray works for damper and pumpkin scones. I haven't tried cakes, but I reckon you could use the pizza stone with standard cake tins no problem.

And yes, the scones tasted as good as they looked, but a bit overdone. Flo Bjelke-Petersen's recipe, but my wife's grandmothers recipe (also a FNQer) is better, just can't find where the recipe is.

They were only in the Weber for about 25 minutes, but I reckon 20 minutes would have been enough.

Plenty of info on Webers in the Camp Oven section. Enjoy.

I've cooked cakes and muffins no worries, normal cake tins/trays are fine. Trick is to put some foil under the trivet as shown above by D4D and watch your temp.

Thanks everyone. I could have put this question in the camp oven section but it doesn't seem to get a lot of action in there LOL. Plus, being new to myswag I'm not sure how to effectively search old posts yet.

A little trouble controlling the temp. but i had heard that happens. I just open the lid when it gets too hot.

I put a stick or something in the edge to hold the lid up a bit, works well just be careful where you stick the stick so it doesn't catch fire  ;D

That looks fantastic! Better than most bought ones. I'm off to get my Weber this week- can't wait to try out some of the recipes in The Camp Oven section.
