Hi, We are still waiting for Our Jayco Swan but i am after people's fors and against on a shade on the kitchen side of the van. My theory is that it would keep the van cooler as this is the only exposed part of the van.
If it is the worth it what are people using? Pics are welcome

We,ve had our eagle for nearly a year and used it 7 times. I got the kitchen side awning put on when we ordered it and I have never even unzipped the bag. So far it seems it wasn,t needed.

Highly recommend the kitchen awning. we had it on a coromal family camper we had and now we have it on the swan, great for shade and privacy without closing the curtains....doesn't take much to set up...

We have a kakadu kitchen awning and use it whenever the camper is up. Whether it be a fixed awning or as d4d suggested sail track and sunbuster, they make a huge difference.
Hot and dry, it gives you shade on the side of the camper keeping the inside cooler.
Wet, you can leave the side windows open allowing fresh air through with out the rain coming in.
I can't think of a reason not to have one, unless you are really pushing weight. Put some sort of awning on you won't regret it.

We had the kitchen side awning on both of our Swans.
They were made by Prestige Jayco in Geelong.
It was very easy to set up. It was a bag awning that had 6 PVC extendable poles with c clips on the ends to attach to the pole running through the bottom of the awning and the clips secured to the side of the van. Took about 5 minutes to put up and the same to pack up.
It gave us privacy and shaded that side of the van from the summer sun and heat. If it was raining but still hot you could still leave the windows on that side of the van open for ventilation.

I also highly recommend it, if your camped in hot weather you ill find that it will keep the heat out of the kitchen side of the CT, and do it well, also oyu are able to leave your windows open a touch when its raining if needed.
I put it on our swan myself, very easy, I purchased the entire kit it thru Jayco, and over about 2 hours one sat morn fitted it, cut sail track to length, dril a hole every 200mm or so, and pop riv the sail track, and fix the awning thru the sail track, fit a screw each end of the rope on the awning to prevent it from sliding any further, and in a nutshell all done.
But defo worth getting, SWMBO will love ya more for it.

Definitely worth doing ...... for privacy, and for wet weather, as you can leave the internal plastic down. Mine was made by Danbri (haven't seen him on here for a while?)

G'day Baggs,
We always use our kitchen side bag awning, for the couple of minutes it takes to set it up it's worth it to us.
When we first got our swan, we didn't use the awning, then a few times in summer the kitchen side would get really hot.
Having the awning out on that side lets us zipped down the windows allowing the air to flow through. Also if it is nasty wet weather it allows for the windows to be zipped down without rain being blown in.
We are so use to setting it up we don't notice the time it takes.

We have one on our Finch. Definitely worth having, especially in the summer. Helps keep the van cooler and adds a bit of privacy, and also keeps the rain off as well. We're getting one fitted on our new Penguin.

Yep what we did on the goldstream absolutly love it
Keeps you cooler
Provides extra shade
Can leave windows open in the rain
Keeps fridge vents in the shade all day
One of the best mods i have done

You shouldn't need to install any kind of sail track if it's new. Our 2012 Swan and all other current models I've seen already have a groove/track in the roof all the way around for this purpose. Just a matter of sliding a sunbuster or equivalent awning side on and then lifting the roof and pegging it down.

I think that they are fantastic, as everyone else says keeps it cooler, privacy and if it raining and you have your awning, bag end flys and kitchen awning out it meant that all your canvas is 95% dry, which makes packing up eaiser. hear is a picture of mine

But now we are looking at a simple sail track + simple canvas with rope to slide into the sail track...

Our Goldstream came with two Fiamma f45s was brilliant in 40 deg heat. Easy to setup, even shade clothe would help

On my "off" side, i got a sail track above the fridge and a full side track for a Sunbuster..... figure i can shelter the fridge easily if only there for short visits
