When the road conditions say Open to 4WD vehicles under 3 tonne only I can only assume that means my patrol which is under 3t is ok but towing a 1400kg camper is not ok??
I am referring to SA road signs. I understand there is a fine for breaking these rules and they do enforce them and rightly so....especially if your the person who has to grade the roads after some goose has chopped them up............but can someone give me clarification on this weight issue?
I tried ringing the authorities but only get recorded messages.

Tough call to make.
I would say that you're probably OK. Yes, the total weight of the outfit is over 3T, but each component is less, and so road damage is not going to be an issue.

I like your thinking :) I might ring a local in the area and ask just to be sure. The easiest thing to do is see what every one else is doing but we wont go anywhere near the restricted roads if there is a chance of not being able to use them and having to detour.

Stop looking I phoned a local and they assure me when it says under 3 tonne, 4wd's AND their camper trailers still use the roads :)
