As a newcomer to the CT world, I am interested to know what items/mods/conveniences can people not do without? My family & I (wife &3yo) are seasoned campers and just upgraded to a Cameron 7x5 camper. I'm keen to to make the camping experience as easy, comfortable & convenient as possible (not asking for much I know!!) so would love to know what makes it so for others?

This will be interesting :D

What did you take when camping with tents? its no different, the tent comes on wheels this time :)
A trailer is just an excuse to take 4000 ton of extra stuff.
But you'll get
TV, video, xbox, Microwave, hair dryers, generatorS, all sorts of stuff.
I'll sit back with McGirr and enjoy this.

Hi and Welcome!!
I started camping with nothing! Public transport, then walked and we carried in everything. That seems a lifetime ago as now we take way more than we need, a big car and full trailer!. I could give away all the luxuries but I need the serenity! I'm happy to be with like minded people but I go camping for seclusion and space, nature and bush silence! I feel we are losing our favourite spots inch by inch..... I dislike crowds and it harder and harder to find space! Rant over....

I guess I will learn that very quickly!! I don't want to make a 'home away from home' as such, was thinking more along the lines of things like reversing camera, water tanks, anything that can make the experience for a newcomer a better experience..

Beer................:-)
-
12 volt kettle. Absolute essential.
In fact, I know where you can get one reeeeaaal cheap!
-
I take those "bread in a box" kits from safeway.
I know its a little lazy, but Im not the worlds best cook and it makes making fresh bread a breeze!
I always like to cook my own bread but I find when Im at home I can't find the time. Whereas when Im camping I've got time to fill.
Plus it's a great excuse to light a fire >:D (contained of course ;D )
Cheers

Hello, and welcome to the CT world :)
as a female porta potti :) will save your marriage (especially on a cold wet night when your wife has had a few to drink ;) )
your better half and child, without them the experience is not the same :)
12 volt fridge
12 volt camp shower (those solar ones are useless in my opinion but thats only my opinion)
If you have room a hot water system (we have a coleman) is great to be able to give the kids a decent bath, and its nice to have a warm shower without having to boil the kettle a couple of times.
Most of all, make sure you have fun and enjoy this beautiful country of ours

For me, i have to have liquid refreshments.... and a camp oven.... as we all know, cooking up a storm over an open fire is hot work, hence having the coldies at hand is essential.... Oh and somewhere dry and comfy to sleep, whether thats a swag or a CT is really neither here or there once you snoring!!
-
zip ties, , gaffa tape and a small roll of case wire.. + a good leatherman tool ...Beer goes with out question, wife and kids are optional..
-
Couple of fans. We have 2 of the ryobi one fans and they have been a life saver the last couple of nights in 1770. Some good lighting. We've been using a string of little lantern lights we got from bcf Coleman brand I think they are, and a remote controlled disc type one from bcf as well. Broom, rake to get rid of sticks and stuff before you set up camp. Fridge if you can, and however much beer you think you need double it lol.
We packed what we thought we'd need and been buying bits and pieces as we travel (great bit of advice we picked up from here)
-
Bottle of Port for medicinal purposes.
Back up bottle of Jim Beam.
Extra carton of smokes.
2 spare lighters
Like nomad a backup pair of thongs.
And the most important of all, the poles for the tent/camper (yes they did get forgotten on a trip to Landcruiser Park. Most embarrassing)

Indeed. The hair straighter is always useful if one is gonna be shot for the cover of Vogue Magazine whilst camping.... ;D ;D

After you wade through the humorous stuff above, you'll find that indeed, everyone's important essentials are different.
When I go camping, I need to be sure we have complete privacy, can get the solar panels out, take the dogs, and are on a water course or hole in the middle of nowhere. Some people can't go camping without taking another entire neighbourhood with them and all the comforts of home ... yes ... including the pool table ;D

Cheers for all the replies, got some great ideas. With the CT now n play I can obviously take more beer, wine & Mother (for the inevitable hangover).
Does anyone use the techni ice packs in their eskis and are the any good? Wondering if it is worth getting a few for the car esky as much cheaper than a car fridge.

a good car fridge is an investment. And once you have one you'll laugh at those with an esky
Techni Ice.. plenty of threads on them... The ones I had not long ago were Shit, and leaked and everythign was covered in crap from them....

So true, even when the 3 yo drops his bundle it is not as intense as at home, and much less frequent.
