In May, we're gunna hit the area for week.
I like the Agnes Water Beachfront park, as its on the wet stuff and looks pretty good. Any thoughts on the subject?

Hey jeepers..
We camped at 1770 a few years ago and I thought the sites are a bit small and we only had an oztent then...But you can have fires, that was when we were there.. Could have changed by now..
I remember that the sites up the far end, towards the east are a bit larger then all the others so if you can get in there it would be much better..
It really is a top spot.. Nothing better then sitting on the beach with a cold one and watching the sun set..

Have stayed at both, not much shade at either. Both nice spots.

1770 camp grounds Sites 20 through to 27 are the go, high tides about 3 to 4 meters from your camper and absolute beach front under the palms / trees..
Would recommend taking the little tender and motor so you can get out for fish / crabbing or you can hire a tinny for aprox $90 a day ..
Sunset cruise on the L.A.R.C is good also ...
Keep an eye out for Lenny [ He has no legs from the waist down ] An amazing bloke who is a regular visitor to the camping grounds ..

1770- unless you surf. The sites are a bit more expensive, but the location at 1770 is great. We are from Melbourne and have made a point of staying there 3 times in our travels now. We have small kids so the protected beach is good for them.

We are at Agnes staying with friends now. The 1770 sites are small but most seem to fit a camper (but your guy ropes will be crossing with the tent next to you). I have never seen so many campers in such a small area as there are here now. My mate lives here but still books himself into the camp ground for the first 2 weeks of January every year along with a group of other families. Apparently you have to book 12 months ahead for this time of year with preference given to repeat campers.
Only the beach side sites at 1770 can have fires. The general store there has been done up with a much better food outlet there now.
The location at 1770 is superb especially if you have kids. The main food supplies etc are in Agnes but that's only a few klm away.
I think either spot would be good though.

But, i just couldn't say yes, dragging you out of your busy shedule, no, it wouldn't be fair to you, i just can't do it.

Last year (not used to writing this yet) was looking into Agnes Waters Park or 1770. We stayed at 1770 because I received many responses (some from this forum but others as well) that the Management at the Agnes Waters was not the best.
We found 1770 a great spot but very cramped.
Either way, its a great area and if you have kids, do the Lark trip.

I had heard the same thing prior to staying there and went in thinking that if these guys arsehole me I will just turn around and walk out.
There were no problems.
It is my understanding that the managers were being fairly hard on some of the campers and the owner stepped in to rectify the situation as the current lease is on a percentage of turnover and the owner was losing a fair bit of coin.
These type of leases generally have termination clauses if the rent falls by so many percent, that would result in the manager losing out on capital he invested to purchase the business, and the ability to sell it.
Thanks for not putting me out Jeepers, By the time xcavator and I had stopped at every possible port to refuel eat and drink there wouldnt have been alot of credit left on the Amex...... :cheers: :cheers: :cheers: :cheers:

+1 for Agnes - it's lovely. We didn't have an issues with management - everyone was really nice. We had to fend off people wanting to look at the camper (it was only a week old then, so we didn't mind showing off). Beach front location is perfect. We were there for our wedding anniversary, champagne on the beach at sunset.
Agree on the size on sites at 1770 - when we were there the tents/campers were REALLY packed in.
That said, I'm sure either one will be perfect. It's a magic spot.

Biggest wave's we saw when we were there were monster's about two foot high.

Agnes gets ok maybe once a year.....you have to pick the tide, moon, have a cyclone in exactly the right spot and be wearing the correct coloured undies......otherwise take a snorkel.

Decent surf stops at Bundy (and most of the the time it is not that big either). Blame the Great Barrier Reef.

My family and i have stayed at both agnes and 1770, its a trade off really, agnes has grass sites, you can walk to the main part of town, from memory the toilets and showers were very clean with good water pressure in the shower ( i live off rain water so i tend to live it up when i'm wasting someone elses water ;D ) we've never had a promblem with management but have heard some stories of both good and bad. We did a drive through only last week and was a bit dissapointed to see they have scrapped the beach front sites in favour of cabins.
1770 on the other hand has more sandy sites, good playground / park if you've got kids, the closest pub is about a 10/15min walk away but the veiws are well worth it. Did a walk through here last week and noticed they've put in a little cafe next to reception although Kahunas pizzas are well worth the delivery fee.
Haven't stayed at the Capt Cook park yet but will be in Feb for the Blues and Roots Festival although when we booked our site the owners told us to bring heaps of mozzie spray so not to sure what to expect ???
Maybe book into a few days at each, i don't think you'll be dissapointed.

we stayed there back in 2006 on the run home from Cape York, no mozzie problems i recall (though obviously things change), bit far to walk to the beach for my likings (doable but not what you feel like doing on holidays) so we'd drive down the dirt track at the back of camp and walk the last little bit to the beach instead. upside to location was lack of people once your on the beach, only people on that stretch of beach were the ones staying at the caravan park (may have developed somewhat now these days?) back then they were just renovating the toilet blocks, nice park but not what you'd call beach side by any means. they used to do a nice fish and chips from the cafe take away there, no idea what it's like these days though.
