Still closed to camping and like people say the National Parks have been looking for an excuse for a while so that will probably be the end of unrestricted camping behind the dunes and they will probably set aside a small area for camping with all kinds of restrictions in the future.
On the other hand i'm not really surprised as we have camped there for nearly 20 years and must have pulled tons of other peoples trash of the dunes, broken bottles etc that the idiots dump and bury. So IMO the people who are really responsible for the closure are the mongrels who have trashed it over the years and the storm was just the excuse that NPWS have been waiting for.

On shutting the beach off for camping this year I wonder how much money has been lost around the area . I know ATM I won't be renewing my permit when it runs out , and a few of the mates are the same .

Conservation via exclusion is the NPWS way. I have keys to many NPWS areas including wilderness areas. The sad fact of the matter is they don't have the resources or $$$ to manage the parks properly so they build a fence and close it off. The ferals then run wild, black berries, rabbits, wild dogs, cats foxes, horses you name it. But as far as they are conserned its all good because its "protected" it a crock of sh!t and you greenie types only have yourselves to blame.
At least Fatty O'Barrell is brown and starting to open a few of the parks up again, not that I think he is much chop either.
I have never driven the dunes on Stockton but always planned too. This now seems like a pipe dream.

I reckon if we all stop going, and encourage others not to go either, the money will run out for the Worimi and they'll see sense (cents) again.
Think of the revenue that the beach passes bring in.

I know I use to take the kids and the dogs up there at least once a week , but I haven't been up there for months and don't plan on it in the near future .

So if we were staying somewhere like 'bay way' could I drag the kids to the dunes to slide down on piece of cardboard or something? . Do people still do that?
