Title: New canvas for cub - plastic windows or canvas
Post by: CruiserCub on December 05, 2012, 07:18:29 PM
I'm having the canvas replaced on our cub supermatic.
I can have the canvas done with tinted plastic windows and add curtains ( similiar to original ) or have the window made of canvas. Mesh is on the outside with both options.
Each option has its merits but I wondered if anyone has done a re-canvas and which option they went for and more importantly if they would now have chosen differently?
Thanks in advance.
David

Hi
If it was me with what I know and with my experience I would stay away from the clear plastic as it will not last long.

Not keen on the plastic windows as they tend to sweat. But you can see out with the rain pouring down and have some light inside.

Maybe get the plastic, but have 'velcro' on the outside so that you can quickly add a canvas cover if you like. Some variation on that.

If it were me I would go for wider than the window opening outer canvas flaps, that can be set up as an awning over the windows and quickly dropped if it gets too tropical.

So many options!

Mozzie screens so you can see outside when you want, with a zip over canvas flap for when its wet.
Try to have a window (on all walls really) on the awning side of the tent, so you can have them open in the wet for some light inside.

Our windows are half and half.

Botton clear plastic, top mesh, with an external canvas flap.

Works fine for us.

My Opinion:  Canvas.

Freedom tents had the best windows that had clear plastic on the outside (zippered & roll up) a zippered canvas window on the inside (tent canvas with a zipper installed) and mozzie screen in between.  If its raining then you can still have light inside.   They call it a 3 way window.

Thanks for the responses.
I've decided to go with canvas except for the window under the awning / annex.
My logic is this will let some light in but also have privacy from the awning annex if required.
Thanks again
