Great news, saved me five bucks on a new holder ;D

SA has been like this for a year now.
We have had issues with people forgetting to renew and getting pinged by the police. Very easy way to raise money through fines as people forget quite easily with no sticker to remind them when driving.
There was even some talk of not even sending out reminder notices anymore. Presumably to raise even more money from the taxpayer. The government argued they were doing us a favour by sending out reminder notices in the first place for all these years.
-
Yeah been earmarked for awhile now so i asked if i needed one not long ago while i was transfering rego from interstate .Yes still needed it .
Trucks will still be issued with stickers.
-
WA has been for 3 years plus from memory and Tassie no longer handed out rego stickers after 31st August this year I renewed rego 1st September and was given rego sticker ?
-
yeah with the new cameras fitted to Police vehicles they can pick an unregistered vehicle miles away. :police:
only 1 question though............................how many people look at their rego sticker to remind them its due ???
more revenue collected if you happen to forget >:(
-
Had our rego label checked tonight at an RBT stop.

Cops in Victoria were actually fining people from SA for not displaying their lab. Even when the Vic police were told of the SA system they still refused to cancel the fines.
Eventually common sense prevailed.
-
In S. A. they sell stickers to put on the windscreen to remind the owner to renew rego...
These same people used to get sent a reminder sticker at no cost - it was called a 'Rego Label'... LOL!!! ???
-
yes I can see the cost savings...but a rego label is a GREAT reminder of when rego is due, especially if you have several cars/vehicles so need to remember multiple 'birthdays'
-
Don't people in other states get rego papers sent to them a month or so before its due?
??? ??? ??? ???
-
I was at a traffic light the other day her in south oz. Cop car next to me was punching in the number plates of the cars sitting at the lights into his in car computer, when the lights turned green, his lights went on and he pulled over a car that was in my lane about two cars behind me.
They don't need labels anymore, that's for sure, but what is needed now is a national database so all states are on the same page.
You still get a reminder in the mail that your rego is due here in SA.

I find the bill in the mail a good reminder that my rego is due.

Tassie has stopped the stickers for cars, but still has them for trucks and trailers, so I have to keep the holder for now. May have something to do with the way many Taswegians put the number plate on some other part of the trailer other than the tailgate, (I've seen them on the front of mudguards and even underneath on the chassis) that plays havoc with the numberplate cameras.

Personally I think this is more about the government raising money than saving. I would we lost if it wasn't for the sticker reminding me to pay. Yes I know they send the paper work out but its often so ahead of when its due to be paid you forget.

I wish that I could say that I do not agree.
However, I'm positive that any savings made will be absorbed in pay checks for people who do nothing, and our rego fees will continue to increase.

Exactly.
Write it in your dairy, on the calendar or pay it by internet banking where you can set the pay due date at the needed by date and you are done.
No need for sticker.
Lots of people in WA have been complaining because "they didn't know when the rego was due".
You still received the payment notice right?
That is your reminder.
-
Got "hassled" last time I was in Vic. (No sticker in WA) and was explained via the constabulary that the toll tunnels etc use the rego sticker (vics have the rego in a huge font on their stickers) to ensure fines are dished out for fare evaders......
-
Signed up for reminder by SMS and email.
yet to be reminded,
Rego due this month, still waiting g to be reminded of the outlay.
Great system, shame the cost saving wasn't passed to us sandgropers...........

If you've got a model made before catalytic converters then it'll run good on regular gas so the cops won't be too worried about your rego.
I heard WA got so back logged with pit inspections after they introduced the no rego sticker scheme they had to extend the "grace period" of paying your rego from 1 month to 3 months.

How do you know if a vehicle you are driving thats not your own is registed.

wouldnt be in Victoria...
Theres a website in NSW you can check your license points and Shit on for free.. cant do that here :(
-
I have no issues with remembering to pay for rego, I have a LB to do that ;D
For me the main issue is going to be when you are borrowing someone elses car, not that I do this regulaly but if a guest has parked me in then I will take their car. Would hate to cop a fine, but murphy says that 5 min drive to the shops is when you will get pulled over.

Personally, I think it's a great idea. We get the reminder notices and pay the rego renewals on time. The new sticker arrives, and gets put on the fridge where it spends roughly the next 3 months until I remember that I need to put it on the car.
So for me, eliminating that last step would be great.
Cheers,
Matto :)

there is no gaurantee that a car is registered just cause it has a sticker... that just means the person got the bill in the mail...
Put your rego renewal date in your calender with a reminder a week in advance, or if your old school, write it on the one on the wall. IMHO too many people think its someone elses responsibility to tell them when to do things, take responsibility for your own actions!

I am sure if the police pulled you over in a car that was not yours with a supposedly valid rego label then they would cut you some slack. As a driver I would think it is reasonable for me to assume a car I am driving is registered if it has a valid label on it, I don't believe I should have to ask to check for the receipt number and view the paperwork.
