Hi folks,
How many of you "seasoned" your new Cat before taking it on its maiden voyage?
We are picking our CT up today and with the Shite Melb weather was debating whether or not to get it up & season today?
Or did you just skip the whole seasoning part and let mother nature do it on the first trip??
Cheers

*CT -- not cat haha

IMHO , season peason . Just go camping , it will season itself , its what I did , worked just fine .

Been seasoning mine twice daily for 3 weeks now lol.
Im waiting on a few items in the post for it so I havn't bothered pulling it down yet...

Treg up & make dust or mud as the case may be

Just read this so maybe a bit late. I was told you only need to season a tarp/tent which has a cotton content. If it is all polyester, which some non-Oz CTs use and most tents use, seasoning will not help. What seasoning does is shrink the cotton around the needle holes along the stitching. Poly doesn't shrink. If poly leaks, or the CTs tub floor leaks, you need to use a seam sealer (available from camping stores). We have Aussie canvas on our CT and seasoned ours once before using it only because we had it up for a few days. If it is not convenient, I wouldn't bother.

First time we took ours away to Gentle Annie near Whittlesea it rained non stop for 4 days camper seasoned ;D

Agree with the above..........just use it.
The weather will sort out the rest........

Have not had the Omeo under the hose but the few times it has been out it has always had a wet morning dew on it, no leaks yet and no real rain to speak of. I think the quality of the canvas may have something to do with it
(I am sure I have now jinxed myself for the next 10 outings)
GG

morning dew....pffffttt....
U need to get that sucker wet....so wet that its dripping in thru the seems...so wet that u think"this is crap"
so wet that ya missus thinks this camping caper is Shite...get me to a five star........
Then when that baby dries out and the next evening u do it all again and even u begin to question your purchase...have a beer or three and relax..cause now its done.
Mine went thru several thunderstorms ..with puddles in the corners and a wet bed.......but now when the clouds roll in and all the other are putting tarps over there tents..i just give a wave and smile with the knowledge that "sheel be right mate "
Thunderstorm last week while camping.........dry as inside......Ahhhh..job done

I stuffed around worth the hose in the front yard! What a waste of time, but three or four massive storms in the first few camping trips did the job. Each time a bit less water, now, none at all.

your in Melbourne dude, set it up in back yard for a week - Problem solved.

I like to season a nice plump CT with fresh oregano and basil, dust lightly with salt and bake in a moderate oven. Serve with a selection of steamed vegetables and a crisp dry white.

I don't think you're taking this seriously Malcolm.
And I think you should try a light red with it! (and add some chilli?)
