Post by: stiling on August 30, 2012, 04:15:04 PM
Hi Guys,
I am thinking of saving up for one of these , or maybe putting the hard word on my kids for one for Fathers Day, so has anybody had any experience with one?, if so was they good, or bad?, because they sound very good value . Your help would be appreciated, Cheers  Stiling

I don't know about the HN6 but I have had the VMS500s with the Victorian map upgrade (CD card)  for 3 yrs now and can't fault it.

I looked at these while at the Melbourne Show last weekend.

They curretnly have Camps 6 on them, and Camps 7 will be released in March 2013, so HEMA will have to update the H6 to remain current so I will wait to next year.  The lady at the stand couldn't tell me with any certainty that if I bought one now, would the Camps 7 able to be upgraded to it and if so if it would be for free.  Hence I am happy to wait.

I have the 5i and love it. So easy to switch between road maps with directions and the camps6 and the Hema collection that covers most of Aus. I came from a PC running Ausie and an in dash screen but this is easier

I spoke to the rep at AgQuip in Gunnedah recently and he indicated that it will run not just the Hema maps but all of my 100 and 250k topos as well. The only issue is that I might have to upgrade the size of the supplied card to hold all of the maps. They looked good however I did find them a bit slow changing from map to map. My cheap chinese one running ozy is much quicker, but then the screen resolution and other features is crap in comparison.

Jas

But John,

By next march they'll be looking at releasing the HN 7 in December, then the whatsit 9 in Feb 2014, followed by the widget 10 in Spring 2014. If you keep waiting for the latest, you'll never get one!    8)

Good point on the Topo Jas. I like that fact as well. When I change the scale it automatically changes to the topo maps or if there is not a Hema map of the area or you can select them at any time manually if you want to see more detail

I have a HN5i, and love it easy to use, and i find the mapping great, but the best thing about the HEMA is the after sales servise, do a few searchs and u will find there is nothing but good stories about sales and service, not like other brands.

Cheers

Not sure if it is in the equation but if you look over in the nav & comms forum there is a long thread about the iPad and the Hema app. Might be worth consideration.

No affilations here, just thinking about the same thing. Also considering a Polaris unit, but only if i win Lotto.

Hi Guys,
Many thanks for all your useful comments . Well I didn't get one for Fathers Day, so I think I will wait til 2013 as Jkohn thankfully pointed out  when Hema should download the latest edition of Camps 7 for free on to the Hema.  Also many thanks to Swanny, as I think you make a very good point about the after sales service  that Hema provides.   Cheers  Stiling
