Hi all,
I have just bought a 2003 Jayco Eagle camper (upgrading from a CT). After reading here about age of tyres I checked mine and they are from 2002 including the unused spare so I'm booked in to replace them. What I'm also concerned about is the age and condition of the
wheel bearings and electric brakes. I live on the northern end of the Gold Coast and I was hoping if somebody can tell me where locally I could get them looked at, and either repaired or replaced. I would like to add that I have found this forum the greatest source of info and also some laughs. :D
Thanks Garry

Hey doogs01,
Firstly, welcome to MySwag. Secondly, ask the guys putting your tyres on. They should be able to either service them for you or recommend someone who can. Or, you could call Jayco and find a recommended repairer in your area .... I'm sure they'd have a list with a phone number (it'll probably be some caravan service centre that sells them).

Doogs, all the boat trailers places will be able to help you out with bearings, they do them all the time.
If you're intending to travel far afield, it is useful to understand how to do it yourself. I found a few clips on YouTube helped me on my first attempt.
A few tips:
Use only high temperature bearing (HTB) grease, other grease turns to liquid when hot and runs out (personal experience, not pleasant)
Don't over tighten the crown nut when replacing the bearings, finger tight or just a little more to allow the split pin in perfect
Once you know what bearings your trailers uses, a spare set in the toolbox is cheap insurance
The hardest part of the wheel bearing jobs I've done has been to get the bearing off, as in each instance they've been well and truly stuffed.

Hi BigJules,
Thanks for the info. I did regrease the bearings on my CT once, and after a short trip found too much wheel wobble and had to retighten them. Did another short trip with the same result so I'm lacking in a bit of confidence. When I find someone to do it I hope to watch and learn. Also buy a spare set. I can't do them this time as I'm recovering from a shoulder operation and a bit incapacitated.
Thanks again,
Garry

Fair enough. Would gladly give you a hand if you were in Sydney.
