Title: Recommended 4WD driving course for newies
Post by: MarkVS on August 26, 2012, 09:52:43 AM
Kerry & I have purchased our first ever 4WD.   ;D ;D ;D (A NP Pajero Diesel with 100,000 KM..will post entry with details and photos when we pick up car).

Can anyone recommend someone that Kerry and I can undertake a 4WD driving course through. Around Brisbane or Sunshine Coast.

I don't expect that we wil be 'hard core' for a while so its about getting confident with 4WD'ing, and being able to handle ourselves...on rough dirt and sand.

Suggestions appreciated.

Mark VS

Join a 4wd club and sit their course, that way you get to meet some fellow 4wders :)

Yep, what he said.
its much cheaper by 100's usually to join a club, do their driver training and you can either become involved in club trips, or just enjoy the training...

Driver Training in our club is included with your membership fees.

Clubs are good.  Sometimes you may need to take a valium before hand as the instructors are sometimes knobs on a powertrip and can give a false impression of the great people at the club.

Courses are fantastic value.  I thought I could 4wd with the best until I did my five day course.  Unbelievable.  No wonder I used to get stuck so often  ;D

There's a mob called P7 Off Road around Brisneyland

It's a good idea to begin with a properly structured, competency-based course from a training company/school; that way you get the basics right (especially with regard to safety) before you 'get out there'

Dave from P7 Offroad is based out of Hervey Bay but does do courses at LCMP also. i'd happily recommend him to anyone wanting to learn the ropes, as he is great at what he does.
as said already, you could also join a 4wd club also and meet people with the same interests you have. the club i am in ( http://forum.themotleycrew.com.au/ (http://forum.themotleycrew.com.au/) ) is away at Janowen 4wd Park doing accredited driver training this weekend.

Absolutely. +1 for Dave.

He's a nice patient bloke that knows his stuff.
