Title: Howdy from Bayside Melbourne
Post by: Maho on July 08, 2012, 07:35:31 PM
Hey guys,

We have just purchased a secondhand 2002 Tru Blu camper, and we are very excited about it!

It was all in pretty good condition, no rust, just well loved. I've done a few small mods already, new water tank hoses and tap, new dust seals, tool box locks, mattress, wooden fixed ladder with hooks.

We are just hanging for some slightly warmer weather so we can get out and use it!

Does anyone have any good suggestions for riverside camping spots within 3 hrs of Melbourne? Any longer than 3hrs and the kids will be going crazy!!

G'day & Welcome Maho.

Can't offer any recommendations for Victoria, other than the rivers in the high country up from Bairnsdale; magic.

Welcome to My Swag Maho.
Get yourself a copy of Camps 6 - there are a number of riverside camps around Victoria.
Cheers!

Hi Maho,

A first time poster here, as we're just researching our first camper trailer purchase.  Looking at a number of used Tru Blus, so I'd be interested in any feedback or comments that came up from your recent research and purchase.

There are no end of superb spots within 3 hrs of Melbourne.  Look up Sheepyard Flats and Pineapple Flats up Mansfield way.  Also a heap of riverside spots up towards Dargo.  There is a great looking little spot about 5km Nth of Walhalla - just of the left side of the road and down at he bottom of the valley with a creek running through it, we've been meaning to get back there with the kids bikes and a couple of balls to chill out for a weekend.

A bit more than 3 hrs, but if you head for the Ottways, Aire River Campground East is a superb little spot.  Sheltered and grassy, 200m to a great sandy swimming hole in brackish (almost fresh) water, and about 5km 4WD down a sandy track will put you out on a wide sandy shallow salt river or the beach, which you can have almost to yourself even in Jan.
