Insurance premiums have gone through the roof over the last 12 months, House & Contents, Vehicle insurance since the Floods around the country over the past 2 years.
Have other Swaggers found that there has been a big difference from last years to this years?
I received mine from GIO, What a shock, The premium up by $120 to $890, the agreed value had dropped by $7000 to $12000 and the excess had risen to Just on $800 up from $600 and accessories had dropped to $1800 from $2400
It was time to search the internet.
I ended up with Shannons,
Agreed Value with accessories $22000,
Premium $816
Excess $650
One thing I can't do anything about is how the premium is worked out on postcode.
We share Grafton's postcode, we are 31k's from Grafton. The nearest town to us is Maclean, which is 12k's away.
If online you use Maclean's postcode it is few bucks cheaper. ???
There are 30 odd villages that use Grafton's postcode, not one of them would have Grafton's crime rate.
Anyway, I rang GIO to cancel with them, the young las asked why, I explained to her the price difference, she asked me to hold while she checked her figures, I could insure for 22000K at a cost of 1200 bucks (http://www.hairfysh.com/images/Icons/Smileys/shocked.gif)
I asked if she was serious, her answer was, we are very serious about giving a very competitive price sir.
While speaking with Shannons, the lady knew everything about every accessory I listed, didn't need to spell the name of them or explain what it was,
I'm now insured with Shannons.
Anyway, It pays to do your home work

G'Day Swaggie,
I've held my licence for just on thirty years, never ever made a claim or accident, yet insurance companies will lure new customers to them with a better deal than they will give a long time customer ???
We are being treated like mugs by some of them.
I would hate to think what it would cost for a young driver these days, and what it would cost to have a Learner driver behind the wheel of my Cruiser, I guess I'll find that out in another three years.
I reckon I'll have to have some coin for that.

In the same boat Hairs, over 35 years with a licence and never a claim. My youngest son-in-law wanted to get insurance, he is 24, and it was almost twice the cost of my insurance. He is in the ADF, drives very expensive machinery and vehicles at work, yet when he comes home and drives around, he is treated like an inexperienced young person. Go figure.

I live up high on the side of a hill and my insurance has gone up also... If I flooded the whole of Brisbane, Gold Coast, Ipswich, SUnshine Coast and most of the south east will be under......

Heard some good things about Shannon's lately.
My folks stayed with SGIO after doing a comparision quote with Coles online, for 2 x cars, caravan, houses etc
Coles quote came in much, much cheaper.
SGIO simply matched it and beat it without any hesitation.
They wouldn't have been offered the discount or a cheaper price while recievibg the premiums invoice.
Pays to shop around and do some homework and checking.
Simply paying your premium each year, your probably not getting Tue best deal you can.
-
G'day Tjupurula,
Yep there is no sense in it.
You can have someone like your son-in-law that would not be an isurance rick, yet there are elderly people driving around that cause all kinds of problems for other motorists and are oblivious to the fact that they have nealy cause a dozen accidents on their way to and from the shops.
Same here Jenko67, we live up on a hill and our insurance doubled because we are now in a flood zone, if I was to get any water over our block, let alone in the house, Noah would get a call up.
Your right cruisindub, people take it for granted with a lot stuff like this, and just pay it.

Yep my house and car through Aami went up 60%. Excuse was that it now relates to your actual house address etc etc. did an online quote comparison from both neighbours, door to door about 30 meters apart and they were both $500.00 cheaper. Squelled a little and they actually reduced my premiums by 10% on current premium ;D

House and contents about 2k, wife's Mazda about 1k
Have another two cars with Shannon's.
My house is also considerably larger than both neighbours and I have a lot of additional cover for certain items.

It's interesting that GIO has been jacking up costs only to lose business to Shannon's as they're both owned by the Suncorp - sounds like they're robbing Peter to pay Paul.
My Jeeps insurance went from something like $700 to about a $1,000 with NRMA so I got an online quote from RACQ who was closer to the original $700 offered by NRMA and email it over to NRMA who beat it by 10%.

We to have both our vehicles insured with Shannons and have found them to be great. All of our accessories are listed and we have an agreed value for the 80 and Adventra that are quite reasonable and realistic. I needed a windscreen the other day for the 80 and they organised everything, the windscreen mob even picked up and dropped off. When we needed a small repair on the Adventra (Mother in law reversed into it) they just said take it to whatever repairer you want and tell them you are with Shannons. We did that and the repair was approved within the hour.
Currently I have my CT and boat with NRMA and the house and contents is with AAMI. I will definitely be changing the house over. The last time I checked Shannons were not doing CT's or boats yet, when they do I will change.

G'day Jas,
Yeah, I asked them the other day if they would do the CT, unfortunately they don't.
I made two phone calls, the first to get a quote, the second to go ahead with it, I mentioned the premium would have to change because I had left off the dual battery, the bloke replied,
"I can see you have listed the isolator, not a problem, I'll just add it, that wouldn't cost you anymore"
I found both reps very polite and easy to talk to, and they knew they business.
-
I agree Hairs
I added cargo draws to mine and had the same experience, they were added with no increase in premium. The reps as you say actually appear to be intersted in the motoring side of things and have suprised me with their knowledge and interest.
I just hope they don't get to big and end up like the others.
Regards
Jas

here is an interesting one for you. My fathers previous car was a HDJ100 landcruiser, 2003/4, I went to his insurer GIO for a quote on my 2001 HZJ105 landcruiser. these cars are garaged in the same area, within a kilometer. He is 70 I'm 42, Neither has any at fault acco's in the last 10 years, I have no tickets for over 10 years I don't know about dad, His car insured for $44,000 at a premium of $600, mine $25,000 at a premium of $1100. When I questioned them I was told it goes on the cost of parts to repair the vehicles, I told them most of the body panels are the same.
Needless to say I didn't insure with them.

Wife's $50k Wrx is $600. My $9k 93 surf is $800. Figure that out!!!!

$320 for87k??, fully comprehensive?
Is that possible?
-
Yep got my insurance papers due this week.. found exact same thing as you.. I also found same as you with Shannons on agreed value year or 2 back. them and RACV were the only 2 to consider what I thought was fair replacement value. Some wanted Market value of $15,000! I laughed and hung up.
I was told few yrs ago while asking why my car value had dropped 20k, and the premium had gone up $1000... the issue is that you used to be able to have 50% of the value of the car as insured accessories. The insurance companies dropped that value to something like 20%, and then it was dropping again 'soon'...
Yay for the customer.
Now I've made 1 at fault claim since 1984 - last year for a pissy $2000 (which I waws told by panel beaters was between $4000 - $6000- thus why i went thru insurance)Now I'm classed worse than Charles Manson.
I might call a broker this time, I CBF making 5000 calls.
