Title: New to CTing
Post by: paulh on June 11, 2012, 05:55:22 PM
Just recently purchased our 1st CT. I have been a tenter till now and still will be on the more demanding 4x4 trips.  I have 20 or so years of 4x4 experience, mainly the Vic Hi Country, but also a number of Len Beadells roads and the Simpson Desert etc.
I purchased a soft floor job, but after a recent trip to Darwin I think a Hard Floor job maybe the go.

G'day & Welcome Paul.

Which soft floor did you purchase? Don't write the soft floor campers off too soon, both types have their strengths and weaknesses.

Its a Tambo top on a custom trailer roughly copying the Tambo trailer with a bit more steel.

Gee, I'm surprised you're not happy, Tambo are a very good manufacturer. Perhaps the issue is the fit onto a another trailer?

I prefer the cover to have full zip with velco, which stops dust ingress. My previous camper used press studs and certainly dust was able to get onto the tent under the cover.

If you're traveling 1 or 2-up, then a hard floor might be more suitable, but it would not be accurate to say that hard floors are easier to use than soft floors as a categorical statement.

Big Jules.  I am very happy with the tent, but it does only use strech cord on pegs to hold cover on. I actually thought a zip with a velcro flap over the zip would be a solution.

I think I willcontact Tambo tomorrow and get there thoughts, as they seem to be good to deal with.

Tambo make a second cover for under the travel cover. My Tambo didn't have a dust problem. From memory that camper used to belong to a fellow swagger.

Thanks guys.
Am still building confidence on what limitations it will place on where I can still go, but so far have been pleasantly surprised. I'm not telling the mrs that though, as hopefully I can use it as an excuse to get a diff lock.
