Title: Hi all new user
Post by: Watty2975 on May 26, 2012, 09:47:36 PM
Hi everyone
I am a new user to this forum world and have been reading a lot of threads about campers, brakes and brake controllers. What a fantastic source of information the forum has been.
We have just purchased a 2003 campomatic and will hopefully pick it up next weekend in time for a family trip to the Cape. Can't wait. I have also orderd a P3 brake controller and am looking into solar panel options. Grateful for any feedback on mounting positions for the controller in a GU patrol.

G'day Watty,

Welcome aboard to Myswag.

I've got my P3 installed basically where it's going to do the most damage to my left knee in an accident!

There's just very little room/options for mounting the P3 (or any controller of it's size) in the GU.

When you get the P3, you'll see it comes with 2 mounting designs.  (The next bit will make more sense when you get it)  I went with the 'Traditional bracket mount'.  The 'Under Dash Pocket mount' will make the controller hang too low.

LJ

PS Don't be too worried if you can't get the brakes to lock up first few go's.

G'day & Welcome.

I've got a P3 in my Cruiser, must get around to looking at the setup video though, as I find it doesn't brake hard enough when loaded but will go to max ppower when the trailer is unloaded.

G'day & Welcome.

Jules, if you aren't aware of it already, check the boost setting as this helped me.  I used to have it on the B2 setting (as the pic showed a 4wd and ct/caravan!) but now have it on No Boost.  Apparently the boost setting up's the initial voltage when the brakes are applied (and then proportionally increases them with the weight of your foot! ie how hard you're braking).  I also had to change (increase) the volt setting to compensate for no boost.  The manual says start on 6v, but I think its set at 9-10v now.

Then again all that could be just dumb luck, and the brakes have finally bedded in!!!

I too should probably read the instructions in full.  :cup:
