Title: New Lifestyle CT Models
Post by: ScottT on May 17, 2012, 03:14:46 PM
Hi All,

Been keeping a close eye on Lifestyle CT's after the Rosehill Supershow as they released a Limited Edition model with 12ft tent, Dynaproofed canvas, electric brakes, water, kitchen box with flipout shelf etc at $6.5K....., well they have just released basically this model as the Explorer ($6950.00) and a Walkthrough model ($8950.00) at these attractive prices.

Can't seem to get a clear answer on the canvas used on these 2 new models (even after calling them).

Does anyone  have any info about them. The trailers look like their usual standard, it's just the tents I'm worried about

Cheers, Scott

I'm suggesting, but don't know, that it'll be (for that price) the Chinese canvas (ripstop style).

IMO, that canvas is a bit like what you get when you buy those paper lamps....

I was told that when they offer aussie canvas it is stitched in china (cheaper labour).

TBH, they were on my short list but I crossed them off once I saw that they offered cheap canvas aswell as good quality stuff. I was probably looking for a reason to shorten my already shortened list but I decided to stick with a company that only sold aussie made and built campers.

Both models are now up on their website.  The canvas definitely doesn't look anywhere near the quality of my 2007 Explorer+.  It'll be interesting to compare them in person at the Brisbane show in a couple of weeks.

I hope it doesn't "cheapen" the entire lifestyle brand name as more and more of these hit the road.

I always get suspicious when a company doesn't include details of the canvas in there spec sheet.

The Canvas does look cheap in the photos........ I guess they are chasing the big profit margin in the Caravan range and keeping the production cost to a minimum for the camper range to compete with the imported trailers flooding the market.....what a shame.

Transferred over from here: http://myswag.org/forum/index.php?topic=21612.msg343710#msg343710 (http://myswag.org/forum/index.php?topic=21612.msg343710#msg343710)

So, what's the difference between the standard Extenda ($14K), and the new Walkthru at just $9K??

- same standard of tent?
- same steel/chassis?
- are both still made here, or is the Walkthru dabbling in the import/assemble business model?

It was always clear the differences between the Extenda and Ext Elite. This is less clear.

I've got an Extenda (circa end-2010), and to be honest, I probably (and many would be the same) would have only needed a Walkthru if it was available at the time?? As a model it appears to have all the fundamental basics that you'd expect for $10K, plus a walkway!

I'm not disagreeing with the business strategy, in fact I applaud them for seeing the popularity of the Walkthru style and trying to capture that sub-$10K market that might have wanted a Walkthru/extended style but couldn't make the money stretch. I'm just questioning what they've cut (if anything) to get to what I thought previously was an unattainable price point for a walk-through camper..

I spoke to them about this model as they had it at the nambour show and it is 18oz ripstop canvas, trailer is made for them in aus, no tropical roof, no fold out stairs, no sink or stove but still quite a well made trailer without any accessories

Yeah, I don't disagree either with them trying to hit the sub $10K marker, but after speaking with them yesterday and not really saying what the canvas was, made me a little cautious.

They'll be at the Penrith Show in September, I guess I'll take a closer look there

Cheers All, Scott

Aussie made canvas, I even meet the guy that stiches it

Just a imported trailer, mine gets here Wednesday

It is just way simpler, no stairs , bling sides etc etc

You can see a cheap china trailer because they scrimp on Steel gauge and weld quality etc etc. This is the same design and specs as he extenda just made elsewhere and finished in oz

At the end of the day you get what you pay for and this looks like a well designed well built imported trailer, probably the best on the market for the coin
