Title: Kimberley Catch Up
Post by: Tjupurula on April 10, 2012, 10:29:46 PM
Hi Swaggers
I am just wondering if it is worth trying to get a Kimberley Catch Up happening, or is there not enough members from this area of Australia....Just a though I am throwing out there.
Regards
Tjupurula

We would love to be traveling up north this year, but not enough annual leave time available - hoping to do a longer trip next year.

Having said that, I may be in the Kimberley for work mid year (without camper) and might be able to swing through for a beer if you do end up planning a get together.

Tjupurula, are you close to Halls Creek?

Hi Stozz
I am about 300 km into the Great Sandy Desert from Halls Creek, which is relatively close I guess.

I'm finishing work end of may and then heading straight up to the kimberley, doing a few weeks up there including my favourite place - cape leveque & middle lagoon (love that spot), so yep i could do a catch up if dates and places align.

I always put a welcome out for the Swaggers and have caught up with a few now. So same this year for us. As they turn up I'l take them out and about if they want and have a few coldies around Broome etc.

Although I more think Tjupurula was talking about the locals (loose term up here) getting together at some stage. I'm up for that work permitting.

Tjupurula. I'll see you anyway as I will be out there to put a new sat dish up in a few Months. Will chat soon re gear you may still need/want

Hi Kieran
You have me at a disadvantage there, I have been nto Bidyedanga, Beagle Bay, Chili Creek, Lombadina and One Arm Point, but as yet not Cape LeVeque (unless that is where the big lighthouse is).  We normally travel around through the communities visiting family and extended family, perhaps sometime in the not too distant future we will get to other locations.

Hi Steve and Viv
Yes we will catch up, but next time you come you need to put a day aside so we can show you around a bit.  I tried to contact you wqhen my wife and daughter came there, and my newest grandson was born, but you must have been busy.  I will get contact details when you get here eventually.  You probably know Pat Lowe ( she was married to the famous artist Jimmy Pike, my wifes' uncle), she has been a resident of Broome for a long time, we always drop in and see her when we come to Broome.

Hi Lil
That would be around the time when we could arrange everything anyway.  At the moment we are still having a bit of rain now and then, so it would not be right to arrange anything until the environmental conditions are favourable.

Hi Swaggers
This is not just for Kimberley people, as if others are in the area, they are still Swaggers and still part of this on line community.  If it can go ahead, I will be having a chat with the Rangers and getting an Permit exemption for people bearing MySwag stickers or flags on their vehicles of C/T's.

Tjupurula,
Yep there is a light house at cape leveque, only one i know of up there, the sunsets on the western beach at cape leveque are truly amazing. we have also been into Beagle Bay, Chili Creek, Lombadina and One Arm Point, the old chuch at beagle bay is a ripper isn't it, and we loved exploring all the tracks into places like lombadina and chilli creek.

We really can't wait to get back there in a couple of months.

Cheers

Hi BigRed
You would be most welcome to drop in.  You would have to take the Balgo turn off from the Tanami, travel the 36 km's to Balgo, go through there and we are a further 40 km's down the road from Balgo.  The road between here and Balgo is absolutely terrible, so it one that you have to be very careful on.

Hi Tjupurula,

Very nice of you to think of that. True gentleman.

We were heading to the Kimberly and Pilbara this year but fuel prices will be keeping us at home  :'(

'Tis a fair way from the east coast.
Cheers.

Hi Mate

Although I would love to visit your neck of the woods, sadly I don't think we'll get therethis year.

Should you come to the south west, would be more than happy to offer the same hospitality.

Hi Mark
( I think your name is mark)

Although I would love to visit your neck of the woods, sadly I don't think we'll get therethis year.

Should you come to the south west, would be more than happy to offer the same hospitality.

Thanks for the offer of the hospitality, but the southwest is far too cold.
Regards the name, close but no cigar this time.

We'll be around that area in July sometime - Are you at Mulan ? Do we need a permit to get in there ? Would be good to say hello and check out the area with a local - being landscape photographers we need something different to snap at - When we get a bit closer and we still have internet we will send a PM through here for phone and directions - Pretty certain we will only be coming in from the Halls Creek end of the Tanami Road .. Might need a campsite too ...
Cheers

Hi Steve and Nadia
Yes, Lake Gregory is where Mulan is.  Things like Permits and Campsites would be arranged if a catch up was here, but I have only suggested a Kimberley catch up, I am not selfish enough to say "here at Lake Gregory".  Details would have to be worked out first, and with the Tanami being in the condition that it is in, very few C/T's could survive that trip.

That, I think, woulod be a detail which would have to be mutually agreed upon.

Evening Tjupurula.   Love the idea of a Myswag meet in the Kimberley.
We are leaving Cairns in 4 weeks to be in Katherine by the 23rd May (visiting son and family for a few days or maybe a week - no set plan) and then heading across to Broome via the Bungle Bungles and the bitumen with the plan of coming back later via the GRR. As you can imagine, we have no real idea of dates exactly, but would love to meet others from the area or those travelling through if we happen to be in the right place at the right time.
Will keep watching this space to see how your plans are progressing.
Thank you for a great idea.
Cheers

Its a shame I dont live in Halls creek no more the days when another offer came up to keep me away from the Halls Creek Pub I would jump at it . I wonder if the bloke I use to work for is pushing daisies ? But Tassie is a bit of a trek to visit my old trotting grounds .

Looks like it could be a Kimberley pub crawl with a breather out at Mulan :)

Tjupurula, any places out your way that could fit 10 or so campers? Probably somewhere off Community land so we don't get in trouble if someone brings grog in.
We haven't been up your way yet besides Servo food at Hells Crack Halls Creek so don't know the area.
 :D
We usually go to Middle Lagoon (up the Dampier Peninsula) to let the kids swim or up the Gibb.

I agree with you about Hells Crack, sorry, Halls Creek, it is one town that I avoid like anything.  Istop there only for fuel and keep going.

At the moment I have just thrown a suggestion out there Speewa.  I would never be so obnoxious as to suggest a time and place that is suited only to me, and there is no specific time frame yet, as it is just wondering when, where and if.

Yes Steve and Nadia, I am on the edge of Lake Gregory at Mulan.  The Campsite would not be a problems, we have that establsihed already, and when it comes to photography, you could snap yourself silly out here.  I would speak to my nephew, as he is Head Ranger, and get vehicles bearing MySwag insignia (flags or stickers), permit exempted, that would not be a problem.

Tjupurula we are in Hedland and love the country up here. Lots to see! July will not come around quick enough for our 4 week trip on the Gibb.

Will get in touch with you soon as I'm looking for some advice on somewhere to stay between Broome and the Bungle Bungle to break that stretch up, hoping you might have some ideas???

Have we gotten any closer to a time and place? Most of the touristy spots will be crowded from now on so a spot not so well known might be the go. Weekends are good for us but can probably swing time off whenever.
