Title: Grave fears camping in Qld national parks.
Post by: Isuzumu on January 13, 2012, 06:49:30 PM
We have just spent a few days camped at Burrum Point camp ground near Woodgate, lovely spot, but with temperatures around 40 degrees it was quite disturbing as the dead wood, cut down trees (by National Parks) and hugh amount of fuel around. If by some means a fire had started in or around that camp site the camper would have been stuffed, run to the beach and watch your rig burn!!!!!!! If you had time you might get your tug out to the beach.
What responsibities do N/Ps have in this situation? Those who have been to this site will of course understand it a little more, there was a hugh fire to the north of Woodgate while we we there to. Summer camping in N/Ps is something to think seriously about.

Whatever you do.......don't pick up any dead wood for a camp fire. ::)

The whole reason there is such a problem is because of the over abundance of ground fuel but touch that and
you will have the greenies and national parks after you! >:(

Hi Foo, I forgot to add that not fires are allowed in this park, but it is the build up of the ground fuel as you have said is the problem and not having an escape route that worries me, maybe I am getting soft in my old age hahahaha

In VIC they close the parks now on extreme fire danger days. This was brought in after the Black Saturday fires.
