Hey Swaggers,
I tuned into a tv show yesterday called "all 4 adventure", has anyone seen this show ?
I have to admit that I have only watched the one show, but their total disregard for safety scared the s**t out of me!
They got a Land cruiser bogged to its gearbox, then attempted a recovery with a winch , and maxtracks. All the time stepping over the loaded cable, and standing next to the winch while winching. I know these shows are designed to be used as health and safety videos, but their blatant disregard for safety is attrocious!
One of the things I like about Pat Callinans show is that he is sensible on the way he treats the environment (not tearing the tracks up like these guys) and he is conscious about safety when doing recovery.
Ok rant over .. (maybe this should be in another thread ... lol)
Cheers Chippy :D

Yes, seen many episodes and I like it simply for the entertainment it provides. I try not to over analyse anything on TV as they all have many errors and faults.

Yesterday was the first time I watched it too. Snapping the axle (CV?) on the Cruiser was on the cards the way they were recovering. It killed 15 minutes of my time though! (I recorded it and fast forwarded the adds and product plugs).

Don't know about the saftey aspects of the show. I just can't stand listening to them >:(

Were gonna have to do some snatchin and winchin.

I don't understand what all the fuss is about - complaining about how unsafely they do things?
Lets just say that this show is just pure Aussie entertainment and I love that they are just so Bogan. It sort of makes for an interesting show rather than Pat Callinan(who does some great treks- however he can be a bit dul)l.
All 4 adventure is the show that if i went to my mates and said- lets go on a trip and just do what we like and film it.
Thats why i like it i guess- the adds do annoy me but taping it a FF the adds is the go!

You should try the "Top of Down Under" (Sundays 6.30pm on chan 44 in Adelaide).
I'm sure you'll find the hostesses MUCH more appealing (I do ;D)
Here's an exert...

I can't stand that whinny voice she has. I think they need a new presenter, however, I give the girls full credit for at least giving it a shot. Have always said Boobs will get more hits than Balls when it comes to TV ratings.

I kind of agree with you there ..... but at least she is better than Roothy! lol

LOL! ;D
I get a bit the same with those bronzed bods on A4A. Did you see that huge fish? What fish? Stuck in the mud and broke something? What mud? Used maxtracks? I didn't see them! ??? I really dislike it when they are wearing shirts.

MHO.
Poster boys for skin cancer.
If they got there act together a bit earlier they wouldn't have needed the heavy advertising and we might have had a good show.

Grave dig...
I streamed a few eps of season 8 last night, this is their WA coast trip, I must say the production quality has improved since they have been on FTA TV. They have also dropped a lot of the product spiel and just have product placement. They push their gear and themselves to the edge, bordering on silly. However I quite enjoyed it.
-
I watched a part of that one I think.
The one in the cut 200 stood on the winch rope while while the 76 was winching!
That made my skin crawl🤕
That aside, I don't mind watching their adventures
Cheers

annnd..................everyone is soooo perfect..............FFS.
Get of ya high horses people..............I think Id be fair in saying that everyone has done something unsafe/silly/stupid/not OH&S compliant/down right ridiculous in the past, whether it be 4wding, camping, fishing, bushwalking or just going to the bloody shops, most of us aren't narcissistic enough to broadcast in on TV (let alone a camper forum).
They are out exploring this great land of ours and having a whale of a time doing so. If we get 15min or an hour to escape reality and watch/dream/plan then they have done their job.
IMO, it's a refreshing change from the ad filled "mr 4x4". offroad adventure show, 4WD craption dvd's etc.

The point is, these guys ARE broadcasting it on TV. It's irresponsible to show recoveries being done in an unsafe way.
I quite like the show, but they really should get their act together with regard to doing recoveries correctly.

In what way??????
I've been involved in 4wd comps for over 15 years including directing events, I've yet (other than standing too close to the winch whilst winching) that I would deem "unsafe". The jumping up and down on the winch rope was stupid however, it wasn't under any real load nor posed any real danger other than him being run over. I've yet to see an unsafe recovery set up i.e. snatch over the towball, no dampener, attaching snatch to bulbar, non rated recovery points etc......
I'd be more concerned about the lack of enclosed footwear when they are walking around (I've been reprimanded by a 4WD club in QLD whereas in WA thongs have been acceptable)
-
^^^ x 3.... ffs these clowns are "promoting" this behavior by defacto...
Even on the most simplistic level - (that being of their own self preservation); one would have hoped they would have done better.... (Not to be standing on a winch cable as its under tons of load... wtf)...
And by "preservation" I am not talking about their mortality and life and limb either - (even though that ought to be self evident, lol)....
As tv producers - I am talking about the preservation of their show; their sponsors; their incomes; their professionalism; their credibility; and of the thing they love doing; etc...)

I just bought a heap of the All 4 Adventure DVD's.(but to be fair... I get almost everyone's DVD's)
Love the show. Jason and Simon come across as two Aussie blokes havin' some fun. And if (when?) they get into trouble... they get themselves out again. (with hardly a mention of the brand of winch, recovery strap, tyres, vehicle, bullbar, sunglasses or hat used in the recovery...)
Regarding the "Pat in the Hat" though... while his show may be more "sensible"... (and boring as batShit to me personally) his "recoveries" are almost always 100% staged to promote his sponsors. (wouldn't want to get his RM boots dirty and his permanent press shirts wrinkled eh...) FWIW... I also have a bunch of Pat's earlier DVD's too... (but never watch them anymore). And don't get me started on his Unsealed magazines' recent glowing "review" of the new 2017 Amarok... apparently it can do no wrong. (surprise, surprise... VW is also his major sponsor)
But back to the All 4 Adventure show... two blokes... having some fun. (the recent shows are considerably more toned down compared to their earlier stuff)
And to be clear... they're on 8 years plus and counting doing shows now.
-
I love the show as they do push the limits and for me personally that makes exciting TV. I did have a laugh to myself when the other week they found a hole/tunnel and parked right on the edge so they could use there winch to lower themselves down the hole.
Then towards the bottom of the hole the wireless winch controller started losing reception. (Even though they would have had the cameraman still on top, still makes for fantastic TV and they have much bigger balls than me)

It amused me when the camera man has handed them the camera. I reckon he was thinking "if you blokes think I'm following you into a half caved in mine shaft, you've got rocks in your heads".
edit> Just realised I've mixed up two different episodes. I was thinking about the mine shaft one, rather than the cave they used the winch on.
-
It's a great show and great entertainment. I think they strike a great balance between being respectable but not over the top ala Pat. The places and ww2 wrecks he researches and goes after are great and of course a few scrubs and trees will get the "good news" but iam sure there's a few others left standing. Best 4wd on tv by a fair margin IMO
-
An extra "spreader" and "pole" in their shared tent me thinks.
-
What ever happened to natural selection? Yep maybe standing on a winch rope whilst under load is not the safest thing to do, but if said person that copies has not got the brain power to understand the dangers maybe they will learn.
Ahh the nanny state we are living in.
-
In the case of the standing on the winch rope, I think they should have written a 4 page report on the possible dangers associated with the recovery, submitted, waited for the OHS officer to come and rule on the possible dangers, resubmit, wait for final approval, then attempted the recovery but not before blocking the track a couple of kilometers in either direction in case of oncoming traffic.
Oh, and I noticed they weren't wearing hi vis clothing either...tsk tsk tsk
-
Yeah I have no prob with the A4A boys. Good entertainment and funny. Unlike the drunken old roothy and his paid mates or boring as crap pat. Man I fall asleep in the opening titles of his show.

actually... give the Low Range guys a fresh chance. They replaced Roothy with Ernie Dingo and blow me down... it's a totally new show.
Sure, Glen(o) and Ken(o) are still there, but both of them have cleaned up their "acts". (acting less like idiots and more like people)
Plus, Ernie brings a totally different perspective to the show. With him around... it's like the other two have "grown up".

I can see the winch bit was done for the show, but really all that was needed was a spotter and he would have driven out of the hole without all the drama.

sadly to many people think everything must be done this way these days...whilst I don't condone what he was doing standing on it, it's hardly string em up material. Want a laugh, go have a look on OE forum to see how some keynoard warriors are going on about the guy who punched the roo, I swear they are forming a posse as I type to hunt after him...just they won't be doing it with dogs, that's a big no no....lol
-

I know right... I couldn't believe it either.
Even my wife likes watching it now.
Hell... she even wants to visit the Kimberly now... and all after watching the last Low Range DVD...
ok, so you still have to put up with them dragging an MDC caravan all over the place... but still.

Yep, wouldn't have even rated if he had of just shot it.
-
I don't care too much about their antics, though given how many tom dick and harries will watch it and think it's safe to stand over live straps, or be nearby when recovering using a snatch, it's irresponsible. I experienced it the weekend just gone take some guys out for an easy/medium drive, then they wanted to do hard tracks, saying they had all the gear etc. Took them to a hard track (with easier lines), and they refused to do the hard lines.. Ended up stuck anyway, and as it turned out, had none of the equipment they said they had. No equipment, no rated recovery points, and no idea. Didn't get home until 9am the next day getting these nonga's out of the bush (hit the bush 5pm day before).
-
Hi All, I love there show, local Cooroy and Sunny coast boys, I know both of them Jason is a qualified marine welder and done a few other things, and Simon was for years a local Farmer who then worked at the local produce store, Pretty mundane jobs, And now they travel around Aus doing what they love,in a 4wd lucky Buggers Shore they may do some silly things, havent we all, Craig
-
I will be the first to admit I’m very envious about Jason & Simon as who wouldn’t like to be sponsored to drive some of the best tracks in Australia.
Also thanks for the tip about Ernie Dingo taking over Low Range as I didn’t know that. But I would love to know how often the MDC caravan is replaced per series.
-
Best show on tele I reckon :cup:

Lol. I don't know that I'd go quite that far, but I wouldn't mind having their job.

Has anybody solved the mystery of what happened to Roddo?
-
We wear their shirts, so that's all I need to say, except I would love to meet them out and about one day.
Meet that Dean Miller from Qld Weekender, I pulled the camera out to take a photo and he stands up waiting and I said can you move out of the road I won't to take a photo of the D.Max.your driving hahahahaha.

A few years ago I seen an ad on car sales for a BT 50 ute not long after they had been released to the market. The ute had all the gear on it fitted out by TJM. Rang the owner and had a chat where he told me it had only been on one trip to the Kimberley. Dropped out to view it out Cooroy way with me still being unaware of the video mentioned in this thread. The owner Simon told me about how he had started making DVD's. Dropped into the TJM shop to ask a few questions re the ute and ended up buying the DVD. Went home and watched the DVD and decided that I shouldn't buy that ute. The ute copped a canning all while towing a trailer.
-
Hi D4d, Roddo lives at Coolum, Jason misses and Roddo misses did not get on, Craig
-
So a bloke stands on a synthetic rope and the world of safety Nazi"s lose their brains. Really, so what. Would I do it, probably not.
What about all the people who jump out of perfectly good airplanes, go bungy jumping, surfing in known shark (attack) waters, pick up a gun and go to war, run into a burning building or go out in big seas to save others or drive down the road to drop off the kids? Everything has a risk, but its up to the person performing that task to keep themselves alive and well.
We have gone way too far overboard with wrapping everyone up in cotton wool and then blaming / suing someone else for our stuff ups. As is now said regularly, common sense ain't so common anymore!
Saw a fantastic bumper sticker on a ute that sums it up: "WorkCover, breeding a nation of softcocks".
-
I'm trying to understand why he was standing on the rope in the first place. What was he trying to achieve?
-
I'm trying to understand why he was standing on the rope in the first place. What was he trying to achieve?
Can only think he was trying to 'pull' the front passengers down. There really was no need. No need to winch. Okay the rear drivers was in a hole and there was lower ground under the front passengers. By all means have a spotter, but really with the truck locked just drive it out, there was no threat of the thing tipping over to get all excited about or to try and pull the front passengers down. It only looks bad but nothing was going to happen.
-
Sounds like most of you guys were still wearing nappies when you where six year old, I am 61 years of age and have done plenty of dangerous things in my life and am still breathing. It is a TV show get over it you whimps.
-
Thanks alnjan, I was thinking the same, but thought it was just me, lockers in and drive out.
-
Yep D4D think it was all done for the 'show' like a lot of the things they do
