Hi there folks, just been put onto this site by a friend who says he used to while away the hours and I can see why.
I am in Perth but we are planning a big trip round Oz next year. Have done reasonable amount of 4WD'ing in the past but not recently (so not modern 4WD's) as although I am keen enough the wife is a bit nervous about anything too rough.
I am going to be almost unique here as well in saying that we are buying a Jayco Eagle outback 2012 model (so no don't have it yet) but also as yet we do not have a tow vehicle to go with it and tow along the Gibb River road, Cape Range NP etc. So I am learning the tricks and looking for advice on a good vehicle to match it with and take us and the 2 kids next year and for a few years afterwards. Presently looking at Patrols, Navarra dual cabs (with lift kits etc) or maybe a Prado.
As a result sorry no pics yet .... ;D

Welcome to the forum, I would go with a patrol 8)

Welcome Northy. I would go with a Patrol too...but then, having one, I am a bit biased. Need Info on the Patrol? they have a great forum too with lots of techo info available. I can't remember the link but 'google' it and it will come up.

Welcome to myswag Northy, re 4wd if it is your daily drive then diesel auto paj or prado, if it is just for the bush then patrol or cruiser. I wouldn't look at a dual cab as there are numerous reports of them ending up like a banana.

Lotsa info but also a lotta wannabees.
I've got a few good tips off there.
Also welcome to the madhouse. Lotsa good info here too. I hope you have lots of time to spend, it gets addictive.

Welcome to My Swag, don't forget to look at a Pajero as a tow tug.

Thanks Guys.
Bananna shaped cars D4D are not ideal - is it because the chassis on the dual cabs is just not as strong as a troll or cruiser etc? My old 1962 Falcon got a bit like that when I was rear ended a few years ago. Had to pull the chassis out with a tractor.....
Yeh tug vehicle will also need to be semi regular driver as well, including SWMBO. I like the diesels for better towing - not so thirsty. Not seeing many Pajero's which are diesel without blowing the budget. So if a dual cab is def out (although not getting into too much rough stuff atm) then I will stick to looking at trolls, cruisers and maybo Prados (not many Prados well kitted for going off road though).
Be really nice to match 16' rims all round when I buy the tug so I don't end up taking 10 wheels and don't have to change the hubs. Do I get the tug and then 4 buy extra 16' rims and tyres or pay Jayco $369 to upgrade the Jayco to 265/70/r16 Wheels and hope the tug will match?
