Title: G'day
Post by: goody59 on August 06, 2011, 12:11:20 PM
Hi All, I am joining here because I am in process of Camper Van purchase.  I have always been a camper/ 4x4 person but this will be my first van. It is a road going concern for my first, Forest River Flagstaff 10' camper from Puma RV's NSW.  Collection is next month.  It caught my eye with lots of features and appears good value for money.  I am in throws of planning mods in my head as time goes on.  I already need to do some car stuff on my 4x4 to suit this addition prior to pick up. Brake controller, Anderson Plugs and the like.
I live near Melbourne. My favourite camping is at Kevington near Jamieson, Victoria where I go most years with family and friends. I have a trip planned with friends in 12 months time to Central Australia.  They have a full size van.  My 4x4 (Nissan Terrano II diesel with dual batteries) is only mid sized so I wanted to keep size/weight down.  I have a 2000 kg towing limit and did not want to exceed over 75% of this with van and any other load such as recovery gear and some additional camping gear for 4x4 camping with van left behind at caravan parks and such.
I intend to traved with just my wife and with accompanying friends in their campers/vans when that works too. I am still working so travel time is in holiday time at this stage.  The way the world economies are going I will be working until I am 99 before I can retire. LOL

Thanks.  I have been reading posts over the last week here since buying CT on Ebay last Sunday.  I have learn't a lot already with regards to what is required for wiring up vehicle to CT to have things work.  I will be doing my own brake controller fit and Anderson plug fit before I collect CT.

Welcome Goody,

How do you find the Terrano.  My brother in law just bought one and I don't know much about them, which is probably just a bit more than he knows.  Any probs, cost of parts etc

Regards

Mark

Love the Nissan but I need to make a couple of more changes before I am happpy.  I have a cargo barrier in shed to install, I want to add snorkel and want to get rid of existing fan to put in thermatic from Davies Craig to overcome over heating in low range 1 and 2 on long climbs like Billygoat track in High Country near Dargo. I have just finished dual battery set up.

G'day & Welcome.

I finally got around to installing my cargo barrier. It is an offputting feeling, drilling holes into one's pride and joy, but worthwhile.

My rig is long in the tooth so no biggie for me.  The idea of better protection from objects just in case apeals to me more.

Thanks Goody,

We haven't had the brother in laws one off road yet but as I have heard of the overheating probs before it's something we will keep an eye on.  I don't know how plentifull spare parts are - but then again thats his problem.  Enjoy this site mate, thanks again!
