I counted up nine of these so called all time great adventures that I have done so far, so I had better start planning to cover a few more of them ASAP. Daniels Point Road in the Watagans is very close to home, so it may be number ten to be conquered, however it is rated 4 1/2 out of 5 for low range work, so I'll have to do a bit more research on this one.
How many have you ticked off the list so far?
-
Only a couple, three, for me. Where/what is this one "Grampier Fire Trail NSW"?
-
I've done 5 - only 10% the way there!!

Bendethera Valley in Deua National Park. Rated as 5 out of 5 for camping so it must be pretty good.
-
I have done 9 too. I better get back out there.
Does anyone think the 100 series on the Border Tk pic looks familiar? Not the black one....I was on that trip 8)
Cheers

Tasmanian Trips
I will probably run out of places to go by the time i retire...lol
I guess I better slow down and let the rest of you guys catch up...lol ;D :4x4:
-
Rather interesting. Can click off 16 of those, so looks like much more to be done..... ;D
-
2 For me. both the Tassie ones
-
I have done 9 1/2. I forgot I have done half of the Savanah way!
-
Have only done 3 or 4, but had to disagree with the ratings on those. There is no way that Skytrek, as good as it is, is more remote or adventurous than Googs Track, IMO.
 Cracka

I tend to agree.
To me Places like Skytrek although there were some awesome views the drive became a bit boring and tedius after an hour or so. Places like the Strezleki are pretty much a dirt highway these days and are no longer a destination but rather more of a short cut to get to other destinations.
Just my opinion. Feel free to have your own views.
Cheers

15 for me but a few done multiple times as well.

Whats so exciting about Ellis track? Done that heaps of times wouldnt call it a "MUST DO" by any shot of the imagination!
-
9 for us; binns track quite a few times...brilliant drive.
Bloomfield track in a soft roader over christmas (sorry land-rover driver who we passed)

That is my backyard so let me know when you are heading up there and I can take a camera to save the trip for posterity!
Also looking for some bush camp spots up that way.(Ulterior Motive)

No worries Jon. From what I've seen on U-tube Daniel's Point Raod is not for the faint hearted and has a massive bog hole at the bottom, and is recommended to be traversed top to bottom because of some rock shelves in the track.
-
Ah, that's what that road is called. I went through there six or seven years ago with a group and it was challenging. Took all day and we had the winches out for the last big hill. A couple of blokes in double locked Cruisers drove it, I managed 1/3 of the way up in my old Cruiser.
-
Only 3 for me. Gibb River, Skytrek and Oodnadatta. Planning to do a few of the Vic ones this spring/summer though. Blue Rag Range and Billy Goat Bluff in particular.
-
What a good bit of reading ! gets me motivated to get up and go to work every day so we can do more travelling.
Im up to 14, hope to add a few more in the near future.
Gunna Do: Daniels point road is one on those tracks that changes alot depending on recent weather, a 2 inch lift and good rubber will get you through, although every time we've done it we have had to winch the cars through the bog hole, Its only a short track but with a few cars its a good day out.
cobber
-
i have done 1 or 2 of the tracks. :'( :'(
but i think you blokes have missed the best bit of the mag ;D ;D ;D
my tuff as nails trackabout. 8) 8) 8)
-
We are up to 5 but should tick off the stezlecki and skytrek whilst in South Oz later in September.

Chicken line for the Paj, daily driver as it is... :-[
-
Unfortunatley I can't say I've done too many of these tracks :-[
A comment though on the article..... Get it right! They say the Sandy Cape Track starts at Granville Harbour - nope. I also read on a Tassie forum that what they call Jeffreys Track is not actually Jeffreys Track, but The East West Trail......... Finally, not an error, but the Balfour Track at #11. Sure it's worth doing, but it's a couple of hours of some fairly boring driving IMO.
-
At a glance I have done these. To rate some of them on the top 50 is a stretch. I bet no one at the mag has been to them all.

I've done Danials Point 3 times in both directions, you can combine Whitemans Rd or the Zig Zag over to Hell Hill then down Danials Point Rd in both directions, I haven't tried Whitemans up though, bit of a risk in a short wheel base 4B, it is getting worse and there have been rumours it might get closed.
I've done 15 of those tracks

Baz, how long ago was the last time you did Daniels Point Road? It's got me pretty interested.

It's been a while 07, 08 from memory, it's worth the drive up, do Whitemans around to Danials Point, it's a good drive, Whitemans is steep, a lot of the tracks are being closed though, Slippery Rock is one, have a look at Wave Rock Rd and Farrells Rd, these are fun tracks, if they are still open that is.
The last bit of this vid is of Farrells

About 2/3rds the way up Farrells

Good to see your spotter was helping balance the car past that tree... :D

Yes funny when people do that, it is a bit un-nerving on side angles, in the car it feels worse, if you listen closely at the end of the vid, you can hear my missus oh fu## crap fu## fu## and you can hear the guys outside laughing ;D
-
Only 9 for us.
I agree with others that Skytrek is WAY too high in that list. Its nice but not as good as the rating shows. Blue Rag & Billy goats are much nicer tracks, as are others that dont make the list (Haunted Stream)
-
I've done a few also to lazy to add them up ;D

Yeah its a bit like when you duck when your pushing through tight scrub and there are branches hitting your windscreen
Did anyone hit their roof on that tree?
